Book Description
Evaluations of the spray characteristics of a new atomizer (Micromax) indicate that rotary atomizers used on tractor-mounted sprayers have the potential to apply agricultural pesticides effectively. Operating the units at the spacing, height, and tilt angle that provides double to triple overlap of the spray output results in acceptable distribution patterns over a range of disk speeds and flow rates. The droplet spectrum produced by the Micromax is much narrower than the spectrum produced by conventional hydraulic nozzles, and the median size generated is related to the speed of the disk. Spray droplets from the Micromax tend to move off the swath and deposit in the first few metres downwind much more than those from flat fan sprays. At distances greater than 10 to 20 m downwind, the deposits were no different from those from a flat fan spray.

Book Description
Atomization and Sprays examines the atomization of liquids and characteristics of sprays. It explains the physical processes of atomization as well as guidelines for designing atomizers. In addition, it demonstrates how the importance of the size and velocity of a particle contributes to improved spray characterization. Coverage includes general considerations, drop size distribution of sprays, flow in atomizers, atomizer performance, external spray characteristics, drop evaporation, and drop sizing methods.

Book Description
A one-dimensional imaging probe was used to measure samples of the spray distribution produced by four different rotary atomizers operating at several different flow rates and rotary speeds using tap water and vegetable oil as carriers. The operating characteristics of the laser imaging probe affected the data collection results. The warm-up interval, effective sampling width, droplet velocity, and spray density were the most critical factors. Each rotary atomizer produced a range of droplet sizes for which uniformity depended on the operating conditions and liquid carrier. At water flow rates below 0.5 L/min, the Micron Micromax produced the most uniform droplet distributions. At rates above 0.5 L/min of water, the Spraying Systems RotoJet produced the most uniform droplet distributions. A larger selection of volume median diameters was produced using vegetable oil rather than water as the carrier. The uniformity of the droplet distributions is controlled better with oil. The RotoJet produced the most uniform droplet distribution with oil in comparison with the other atomizers. There was little difference between water and oil as carries in the drift potential at low rotational speeds. However, at higher operating speeds the drift potential was reduced by using oil as the liquid carrier.

Book Description
The second edition of this long-time bestseller provides a framework for designing and understanding sprays for a wide array of engineering applications. The text contains correlations and design tools that can be easily understood and used in relating the design of atomizers to the resulting spray behavior. Written to be accessible to readers with a modest technical background, the emphasis is on application rather than in-depth theory. Numerous examples are provided to serve as starting points for using the information in the book. Overall, this is a thoroughly updated edition that still retains the practical focus and readability of the original work by Arthur Lefebvre.

Book Description
An extensive critical compilation of the wide range of manufacturing processes that involve the application of spray technology, this book covers design of atomizers as well as the performance of plant and their corresponding spray systems. The needs of practising engineers from different disciplines: project managers, and works, maintenance and design engineers are catered for. Of interest to researchers in the field of liquid sprays, the book includes outlines of the contemporary and possible future research and challenges in the different fields of application and deals with: • sprays and their production; • sprays in industrial production processes; • processes involving vaporisation and cooling or cleaning of gases; • spray-surface impact processes; • fuel sprays for fixed plant; • spraying of hot surfaces for steel making and other metals; • spraying of molten metals. Guidance is given for the analysis and interpretation of experimental data obtained using different measurement techniques.

Book Description
A combined simplex/air-assist atomizer with swirl is characterized in an isothermal high pressure spray characterization chamber, with optical access, under various ambient pressures. A single-component, phase Doppler laser interferometer is used to obtain spatially resolved droplet size and velocity information. Data are obtained at atmospheric pressure as well as 3 and 6 atmospheres for conditions of constant fuel and atomizing air flow rates. Two different nozzle air flow rates and, hence, two different air-to-liquid ratios are considered. Increasing ambient pressure decreases the air-to-liquid momentum ratio and thereby decreases droplet mean axial velocity and increases the droplet size. The response of a spray to increasing ambient pressure is sensitive to the parameters which are held constant while increasing ambient pressure. The appropriate scaling parameters for the extrapolation of atmospheric testing data to high ambient pressures are likely geometry specific, and will require data of the type reported here.
