Scheduling Divisible Loads in Parallel and Distributed Systems
Author: Veeravalli Bharadwaj
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 9780818675218
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 320
Book Description
This book provides an in-depth study concerning a claqss of problems in the general area of load sharing and balancing in parallel and distributed systems. The authors present the design and analysis of load distribution strategies for arbitrarily divisible loads in multiprocessor/multicomputer systems subjects to the system constraints in the form of communication delays. In particular, two system architecture-single-level tree or star network, and linear network-are thoroughly analyzed. The text studies two different cases, one of processors with front-ends and the other without. It concentrates on load distribution strategies and performance analysis, and does not cover issues related to implementation of these strategies on a specific system. The book collates research results developed mainly by two groups at the Indian Institute of Science and the State University of New York at Stony Brook. It also covers results by other researchers that have either appeared or are due to appear in computer science literature. The book also provides relevant but easily understandable numerical examples and figures to illustrate important concepts. It is the first book in this area and is intended to spur further research enabling these ideas to be applied to a more general class of loads. The new methodology introduced here allows a close examination of issues involving the integration of communication and computation. In fact, what is presented is a new "calculus" for load sharing problems.

Proceedings of the 4th Workshop on PASA '96, Parallel Systems & Algorithms, Research Center J?ulich, Germany, 10-12 April 1996
Author: Workshop on PASA '96
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814530069
Category : Computer algorithms
Languages : en
Pages : 342
Book Description
"The PASA Workshops aim to build a bridge between theory and practice in the area of parallel systems and algorithms. Practical problems which require theoretical investigations as well as the applicability of theoretical approaches and results to practice are discussed. A particularly important aspect is the communication and exchange of experiences between various groups working in various areas of parallel computing, e.g. computer science, electrical engineering, physics and mathematics. This volume discusses many aspects of parallel computing from a theoretical as well as a practice-oriented point of view. It shows that there are a number of promising approaches for the application of formal methods to the solution of practical problems in the area of parallel systems and algorithms."--Publisher's website

Scheduling Problems
Author: Rodrigo Righi
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 1789850533
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 156
Book Description
Scheduling is defined as the process of assigning operations to resources over time to optimize a criterion. Problems with scheduling comprise both a set of resources and a set of a consumers. As such, managing scheduling problems involves managing the use of resources by several consumers. This book presents some new applications and trends related to task and data scheduling. In particular, chapters focus on data science, big data, high-performance computing, and Cloud computing environments. In addition, this book presents novel algorithms and literature reviews that will guide current and new researchers who work with load balancing, scheduling, and allocation problems.

Job Scheduling and Load Balancing In Grid Computing Environment
Author: Amr Rekaby
Publisher: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
ISBN: 9783659339066
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 104
Book Description
Grid computing is a modern generation of distributed computing that aims to integrate heterogeneous resources which are allocated in different geographical locations to act as a one huge powered resource. Grid computing got its importance from the growth of the current scientific applications which contain a lot of complex calculations. Heterogeneous resources collaboration faces many problems like security management, tasks scheduling and load balancing. This book addresses job scheduling and load balancing current approaches, then presents the author researches in new grid structure model and job scheduling and load balancing algorithms. These new algorithms take into consideration new criteria of scheduling, and a new model of decision making. Enhancements provided by the proposed solution, would make the overall grid environment performance more efficient than the current grid computing situation due to faster and intelligent model. This book is useful for Master and PHD student who would like to read Master thesis, and all professional and interested in Grid computing field and job scheduling algorithms.
