The members of the McIver family descend from Kenneth McIver, who was born abt. 1696 in Scotland. The first of the Thompson ancestors to arrive in America was Theophilus Thompson, an Irish seaman, born ca. 1715/20. He had an mercantile business in Norfolk, Va. between 1736 and 1746. His widow and six sons moved to Robeson County, North Carolina after his death. Descendants and relatives lived in Texas, North Carolina, Arkansas, Alabama, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio and elsewhere.
