Book Description
Updated version of an engaging overview of the television situation comedy. This updated and expanded anthology offers an engaging overview of one of the oldest and most ubiquitous forms of television programming: the sitcom. Through an analysis of formulaic conventions, the contributors address critical identities such as race, gender, and sexuality, and overarching structures such as class and family. Organized by decade, chapters explore postwar domestic ideology and working-class masculinity in the 1950s, the competing messages of power and subordination in 1960s magicoms, liberated women and gender in 1970s workplace comedies and 1980s domestic comedies, liberal feminism in the 1990s, heteronormative narrative strategies in the 2000s, and unmasking myths of gender in the 2010s. From I Love Lucy and The Honeymooners to Roseanne, Cybill, and Will & Grace to Transparent and many others in between, The Sitcom Reader provides a comprehensive examination of this popular genre that will help readers think about the shows and themselves in new contexts. Book Description
The 2nd edition includes a new preface that considers how matricentric feminism in positioning mothering as a verb affords a gender-neutral understanding of motherwork and allows for an appreciation of how motherwork is deeply gendered and how this may be challenged and changed through empowered mothering The book argues that the category of mother is distinct from the category of woman, and that many of the problems mothers face are specific to women's role and identity as mothers. Indeed, mothers are oppressed under patriarchy as women and as mothers. Consequently, mothers need a feminism of their own, one that positions mothers' concerns as the starting point for a theory and politic of empowerment. O'Reilly terms this new mode of feminism matricentic feminism and the book explores how it is represented and experienced in theory, activism, and practice.

Book Description
Colonial Chesapeake Families: British Origins and Descendants Harrison Dwight Cavanagh The first edition was awarded the Sumner A. Parker Prize by the Maryland Historical Society in 2014. The second edition of this work features all descendants of Thomas Gantt I (b. Bullwick, N. Hants; to Md. 1654; d. Calvert County, 1692) and Ann Fielder (b. ca. 1662 Hants; d. Prince Georges County, 1726) in the first six to ten generations. Ann Fielder is an important new addition to American colonial Gateway ancestors. Her parents, Capt. William Fielder (ca. 16201679) of Burrough Court Manor and Marjorie Cole (16281699) of Lyss Abbey, Hants, have proven multiple royal and Magna Carta ancestral lines; sixty extensive British pedigrees are documented in these volumes. The name Fielder has been inherited in multiple generations of the Beall, Belt, Berry, Bowie, Calvert, Clagett, Denwood, Dorsett, Gantt, Jones (Somerset County), Parker (Calvert County), Smallwood, Smith (Calvert County), and Wight (White) Maryland families. In addition, this second edition contains important new research findings on the British origins of the Hatton-Domville and Brooke-Darnall families, as well as revealing the two lost Ann Bradfords of Prince Georges County. Colonial Chesapeake Families details the pedigrees of eighty-eight families, historical illustrations, portraits, documents, and coats of arms (where proven) are included. The publication of these volumes has been subsidized to make them more widely available to the thousands of descendants listed in their pages. And thanks to print on demand, Colonial Chesapeake Families will never go out of print.
