Book Description
This book presents an analysis of the results of studies of motor fuels ageing, conducted in laboratory and model conditions, in terms of building a system operating on-line, allowing continuous assessment of the operational usability of gasoline and diesel fuels, including those containing the addition of ethanol and FAME, respectively. This research was carried out in the framework of the project: "A system for the continuous control of the degree and rate of the liquid fuels ageing process during storage, which received co-funding from the European Regional Development Fund under the Operational Programme "Innovative Economy". The book presents an evaluation of the impact of fuel production processes on its stability and an analysis of changes in normative parameters of fuels during their storage and use. The book presents also the results of tests on the corrosive effects of fuels during storage processes. This project was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Operational Programme "Innovative Economy".

Book Description
The investigation was concerned with the contribution of selected components and additives of high-temperature aircraft fuels to thermally induced deposits before and after 52 weeks storage at 130F. Of particular concern is the influence of these fuel constituents on thermal stability quality of these jet fuels during storage. The study utilizes a microfuel coker test apparatus to measure the thermal stability of test fuels and blends. The contribution of selected fuel components, labeled with carbon-14, to deposit-forming mechanisms is determined by radioactive counting techniques. Twenty-eight blends of the five test fuels with carbon-14-labeled fuel additives or components reached the final stage of storage at 130F and received final analyses for deposit forming tendency. These additives included an amine-type antioxidant, a metal deactivator, and a corrosion inhibitor. Also included in this study group were oleic acid and 1,5-hexadiene. All three additives showed a great tendency to degrade and react during storage and thermal stress. It was found that oleic acid interacts with cadmium present in aircraft fuel systems to produce deleterious effects upon the thermal stability quality of the fuel. Results showed changes in thermal stability quality of many of these blends containing sulfur compounds. Four additional special studies were conducted as preliminary investigations to continued research of jet fuel stability characteristics.

Book Description
The Bureau of Mines developed a rapid test method for predicting the stability of motor gasoline during long-term storage. The amounts of gum and inorganic residue formed in 13 gasolines during a 16-hour oven test at 200F were compared with the amounts formed in the same gasolines stored at 110F. By use of a modified Arrhenius equation, the 110F storage time can be extrapolated to equivalent time at any temperature below 110F. By combining the stability prediction method with the mathematical extrapolation, the storage performance of motor gasoline for extended periods can be estimated at any temperature up to 110F. Book Description
A program to evaluate the storage stability of the Navy's new distillate fuel is described and cumulated data are presented. The outdoor storage location is shown to be a factor in the aging process, on the basis of data obtained from fuel stored in Maine, Maryland, and Florida. The use of tinned cans is shown to be unsuitable for long term storage tests of Navy distillate fuel. The results obtained in accelerated tests such as a 110°F beaker test or the ASTM Test for Stability of Distillate Fuel Oil (Accelerated Method) (D 2274-70), are shown to be indicative of results obtained in long term tests outdoors. From available data it appears that one week of storage at 110°F is equivalent to about 11⁄4 months outdoors at ambient temperature.

Book Description
The storage stability characteristics of diesel fuels meeting the requirements of Federal Specification VV-F-800a (Fuel Oil, Diesel) were investigated by conducting a two-year storage program involving four different diesel fuels. The fuels, stored in 100 bbl. above-ground steel tanks located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, were sampled at three levels each month for the first year and every third month during the second year. Specific tests were performed on each sample to assess the degree of fuel deterioration. At the termination of the two-year program, two of the fuels maintained satisfactory storage stability whereas one fuel exhibited a cyclic pattern typical of unsatisfactory storage stability. The fourth fuel was considered marginal with respect to storage stability since initially low values were evidenced followed by a gradual increase indicative of fuel instability. (Author).
