Book Description
We propose an investigation of neutrino interactions in the deuterium filled 15-foot bubble chamber at NAL. A 250,000 picture run with 200 GeV protons should yield very interesting physics even with a 'bare' deuterium chamber. This addendum extends the physics discussion in the original proposal to the search for charm particles, and the study of neutral currents. A (?{sub {mu}}, d) bubble chamber exposure with E{sub P} = 200-300 GeV is the most promising experiment that can be done to search for the type of charm particles that are essential to Gauge theories of weak and electromagnetic interactions. This addendum updates and summarizes Proposal 151. We propose a 300,000 picture run of the 15-foot bubble chamber filled with deuterium exposed to a wide band, 2 horn, neutrino beam from protons of energy E{sub p} ≥ 300 GeV. The analysis will be based primarily on the bare bubble chamber data but will also use the EMI wherever useful. The physics purposes of the experiment include: (1) Extensive search for charmed baryons and mesons; Determination of the ratio of the total charged current cross sections?(?, n)/?(?,0); (3) Determination of d2?{sup C.C.}/dxdy for (?, n) and (?, p) interactions separately; (4) Study of (?, n) and (?, p) neutral current interactions; and (5) Physics of Special Channels in charged current and neutral current events.

Book Description
We propose to study the interactions of high energy neutrinos in the 14 foot bubble chamber. The target chamber to be filled with Deuterium and the surrounding region filled with nearly pure Neon. An exposure of one million pictures is requested, in order to map out the s and t dependences of the basic interaction in which neutrinos participate.

Book Description
We propose to study high-energy neutrino intersections in the NAL 30 m3 bubble chamber. A slight alteration of the chamber design will allow a large-solid-angle quantameter to be placed just outside the thin (1/2 inch steel) wall of the bubble chamber. A detector, designed to identify the muon of the interaction is placed outside the vacuum tank. With this hybrid system they can reconstruct the neutrino's energy, the lepton momentum transfer squared, Q2, the lepton energy transfer and measure many features of the final hadron state. This system detects with high efficiency over the entire range of variables and is well suited to making a detailed general survey of neutrino interactions in the neutrino energy range 15 to 80 GeV. A million-picture exposure would yield tens of thousands of neutrino interactions with circulating protons at 200 GeV. A similar number of events should be obtained with protons at 500 GeV.

Book Description
The authors propose to study dilepton neutrino events in the 15-foot bubble chamber using the quadrupole beam. The chamber is filled with at least 80% neon (15 ton fiducial target), the EMI is rearranged into 2 planes to give at least 7 absorption lengths for muon identification and give time coincidence, and the beam has a 1 millisecond spill. This will give about 150 dimuon events and 150 muon electron events per 100,000 pictures. They request 200,000 pictures.

Book Description
Approximately 2000 ..nu../sub e/ and /bar /nu///sub e/ charged-current interactions with energies ranging up to 200 GeV were observed in a wide band neutrino beam using the Fermilab 15-ft bubble chamber filled with a heavy Ne-H2 mix. The cross-section, kinematic distributions, charged particle multiplicity, strange particle production, and dilepton production for these events are compared to those for samples of ..nu../sub ..mu../ and /bar /nu///sub ..mu../ charged-current events obtained during the same experiment. No evidence for a violation of ..nu../sub ..mu../−..nu../sub e/ universality is observed. The universality of charged leptons has a strong experimental foundation. However, the universality of neutrinos is not as well established. We report on a detailed study of ..nu../sub ..mu../−..nu../sub e/ universality, including comparisons of cross sections and many properties, such as kinematic distributions and the strange particle production rates. These results represent an order of magnitude improvement in statistics over previous bubble chamber studies of neutrino universality. Counter experiments have measured cross sections only. 12 refs., 9 figs.
