A Practical Guide to Supramolecular Chemistry
Author: Peter J. Cragg
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0470866543
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 230
Book Description
A Practical Guide to Supramolecular Chemistry is an introductory manual of practical experiments for chemists with little or no prior experience of supramolecular chemistry. Syntheses are clearly presented to facilitate the preparation of acyclic and macrocyclic compounds frequently encountered in supramolecular chemistry using straightforward experimental procedures. Many of the compounds can be used to illustrate classic supramolecular phenomena, for which clear directions are given, or may be developed further as part of the reader's own research. The book also describes techniques commonly used in the analysis of supramolecular behaviour, including computational methods, with many detailed examples. An invaluable reference for students and researchers in the field embarking on supramolecular chemistry projects and looking for a 'tried and tested' route into the chemistry of key compounds. An introductory guide to practical syntheses focusing on supramolecular chemistry. Fully referenced introductions explain the historical and contemporary importance of each compound Supplementary website including 3D molecular structures, FAQ's about syntheses and suggestions for further experiments

Polymer Synthesis: Theory and Practice

Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540268901

Languages : en
Pages : 401
Book Description
The first English edition of this book was pubUshed in 1971 with the late Prof. Dr. Werner Kern as coauthor. In 1997, for the preparation of the third edition, Prof. Dr. Helmut Ritter joined the team of authors and in 2001 Prof. Dr. Brigitte Voit and Prof. Dr. Matthias Rehahn complemented this team. The change in authors has not altered the basic concept of this 4th edition: again we were not aimed at compiling a comprehensive collection of recipes. In stead, we attempted to reach a broader description of the general methods and techniques for the synthesis, modification, and characterization of macromo- cules, supplemented by 105 selected and detailed experiments and by sufficient theoretical treatment so that no additional textbook be needed in order to under stand the experiments. In addition to the preparative aspects we have also tried to give the reader an impression of the relation of chemical structure and mor phology of polymers to their properties, as well as of areas of their application.

Interacting Macromolecules
Author: John Cann
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 032315865X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 262
Book Description
Interacting Macromolecules: The Theory and Practice of Their Electrophoresis, Ultracentrifugation, and Chromatography reviews advances in theory and practice concerning the electrophoresis, ultracentrifugation, and chromatography of interacting macromolecules. The principles of mass transport of non-interacting systems are discussed, along with the weak electrolyte moving-boundary theory and analytical solution of approximate transport equations for certain types of interactions. Computer computations on ligand-mediated association-dissociation reactions are also presented. This book is comprised of six chapters and begins with a survey of the principles of electrophoresis and ultracentrifugation of non-reacting systems before proceeding with a detailed treatment of the mass transport of reversibly reacting macromolecules. A conservation equation is derived for a solution containing a single macromolecular ion. The following chapters explore the weak-electrolyte moving-boundary theory; the analytical Solution of approximate conservation equations; and numerical solution of exact conservation equations. The formulation of the numerical computation for ligand-mediated association-dissociation reactions is described, together with a code for sedimentation calculations. The final chapter summarizes the procedures and precautions required to assure accurate interpretation of sedimentation and electrophoretic patterns in terms of the thermodynamic and molecular parameters characterizing the reactions exhibited by biological macromolecules. The more common analytical applications of ultracentrifugation, electrophoresis, and chromatography are also outlined. This monograph is intended for molecular biologists and graduate students.
