Book Description
Hi, I'm Didie. I work as a muse and I have great success in my professional career. I'm Didie, I work as a muse and I am very successful in my professional career. I love turning my protégés' lives upside down, and I choose my protégés very carefully. But they need to fulfill my three unbreakable rules. First of all, they have to do everything I ask them to. Second, they always have to be available for us, because we muses are fussy and shine at the most unexpected times. And the last rule, which is the most important of all, is that it is strictly forbidden to fall in love with me. Sometimes my protégés cannot figure out their feelings because of the huge influence I exert on them, but until now I have never had any problem to control the situation. However, I'm not sure but I think that's about to change. My current protégé is a writer and he is very lost. It's quite a challenge, taking into account he is stubborn, untrusting, imposing, arrogant, and he tries to break all my rules. Would you join me to find out whether I can manage to make him write his next best-selling novel?

Book Description
“An amazing and brilliant instruction manual on how to find purpose, build a career, and live a life of fulfillment.” – DEEPAK CHOPRA A surefire guide to planning your next career move and discovering the job you really want. Jennifer Turliuk was dissatisfied in her corporate job, so she quit. But she had no idea what to do next. After university, she, like so many graduates, focused on just getting a job rather than figuring out the career she really wanted. Instead of getting another degree or going back to school to change her career path, Turliuk embarked on a “self-education journey,” interviewing and shadowing some of the world’s leading professors, founders, and investors from Silicon Valley companies such as Airbnb, Square, and Kiva. What she discovered was not only a way to find out what she really wanted to do with her own life, but also a career-design process that would help others do just the same. Turliuk’s career-prototyping framework uses tested strategies and exercises, including quantified self, design thinking, and lean methodology to help everyone from recent graduates to mid-career workers looking for a change. Let this book be your guide to finding a satisfying and passion-driven career that is right for you.

Book Description
An in-depth look at how employers today perceive and evaluate job applicants with nonstandard or precarious employment histories Millions of workers today labor in nontraditional situations involving part-time work, temporary agency employment, and skills underutilization or face the precariousness of long-term unemployment. To date, research has largely focused on how these experiences shape workers’ well-being, rather than how hiring agents perceive and treat job applicants who have moved through these positions. Shifting the focus from workers to hiring agents, Making the Cut explores how key gatekeepers—HR managers, recruiters, and talent acquisition specialists—evaluate workers with nonstandard, mismatched, or precarious employment experience. Factoring in the social groups to which workers belong—such as their race and gender—David Pedulla shows how workers get jobs, how the hiring process unfolds, who makes the cut, and who does not. Drawing on a field experiment examining hiring decisions in four occupational groups and in-depth interviews with hiring agents in the United States, Pedulla documents and unpacks three important discoveries. Hiring professionals extract distinct meanings from different types of employment experiences; the effects of nonstandard, mismatched, and precarious employment histories for workers’ job outcomes are not all the same; and the race and gender of workers intersect with their employment histories to shape which workers get called back for jobs. Indeed, hiring professionals use group-based stereotypes to weave divergent narratives or “stratified stories” about workers with similar employment experiences. The result is a complex set of inequalities in the labor market. Looking at bias and discrimination, social exclusion in the workplace, and the changing nature of work, Making the Cut probes the hiring process and offers a clearer picture of the underpinnings of getting a job in the new economy.
