Book Description
Excerpt from Our Family Physician In offering this work to the consideration of the public, I feel that I am supplying a need which has long been felt, for a treatise on domestic medicine, which would meet the wants of all classes. It is written with a view more especially to the necessities of the farming community, and those living remote from towns, or where reliable medical assistance can not be obtained. There are many who can recall the time, when if such a work had been at hand, great suffering might have been relieved, or perchance a life have been saved. Our stay upon earth is but short at the best, and it is clearly the duty of every one to use all the means in his power to prolong his life to at least the allotted age of man. No one can tell when disease may strike, when an accident may sever an arte ry, and we should be always prepared for such emergencies. In the preparation of this work, I have endeavored to describe each disease in as plain and simple a manner as possible, avoiding so far as was in my power, the use of technical or scientific terms, and expressing myself in plain English, so that a child may under stand. Where any such terms are used (and it is sometimes im possible to avoid them) they are either explained at the time, or will be found in the Glossary.
