Book Description
The historic grounds of The Homewood Cemetery have been an integral part of Pittsburgh since before the cemetery was founded in 1878. Nearly a half-century prior, Judge William Wilkins established his family's Homewood residence on these now hallowed hills. Homewood was surrounded by the estates of notable Pittsburgh industrialists such as Henry Frick's residence, named Clayton, and the H.J. Heinz family mansion, Greenlawn. These well-known families, along with numerous other sons and daughters of Pittsburgh, now rest in the approximately 200 acres encompassing The Homewood Cemetery. Today, past blends seamlessly with present, as the lawn park design of the cemetery draws visitors from all walks of life to enjoy its bucolic grounds and storied paths.

Defunctive Music
Author: William Guy
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1401085814
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 338
Book Description
The subject-gamut of these poems is wide: it ranges from meditations on sex (as in the author's fiction) to meditations on American history and politics (black/white relations, draft dodging, presidential politics). The prevailing concern, however, is with tricks of memory, with moments in and out of time, distraction fits when past selves or past lives rise up to re-engulf the "present" person. These poems ring changes on Montaigne's idea of ondoyance, the flux of personality. They are ghost stories in the same way Henry James's works of fiction and of autobiography often are. Ghost stories too (or perhaps especially) in the substantial section of translations with which the volume concludes: the poet assumes or is haunted by the voices of others.
