Book Description
First Things First in Rhyming Verse, as the name implies, is a collection of biblically based poems designed to highlight various topics, issues, and beliefs foundational to the Christian faith. The primary function of this work is to bring praise, honor, and glory to God for in him will live and move and have our being. It serves to give godly counsel to the people of God because as he says in Hosea 4:6, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." Although we live in a fallen world full of trouble, there are many hardships that come as a result of our ignorance and disobedience to the Word of God. This book seeks to rectify some of that. It is intended to instruct in the ways of godliness and righteousness and encourage the people of God to live holy before him thereby avoiding some of the unnecessary pains of life. This collection also serves, in part, as a way to introduce to the Lord those who do not yet know him and hopefully persuade them to want to enter into a saving relationship with him. Although no substitute for scripture itself, these various poems can be looked to time and time again as sources of instruction, inspiration, and encouragement.

Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 366
Book Description
To me words are an essential part of life, especially when comes using words to express myself. As a poet I live to entertain and inform others about different things in life. When it comes to creative writing poetry, essays, and plays I use these devices as a way to process communication. These elements of composition are a gateway into a world which I use words to illustrate life. By letting words become my instruments of imagery my goal as a poet is to paint vivid pictures with a pen. By doing so then I can then enlighten and capture my audience with words. Through this process of communication I try to thought provoke and awaken the minds, souls, and hearts of my audience.

Poems of Guido Gezelle
Author: Paul Vincent
Publisher: UCL Press
ISBN: 1910634948
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 253
Book Description
The Bruges-born poet-priest Guido Gezelle(1830–1899) is generally considered one of the masters of nineteenth-century European lyric poetry. At the end of his life and in the first two decades of the twentieth century, Gezellewas hailed by the avant-garde as the founder of modern Flemish poetry. His unique voice was belatedly recognised in the Netherlands and often compared with his English contemporary Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844–1889). In this bilingual anthology, award-winning translator Paul Vincent selects a representative picture of Gezelle’soutput, from devotional through narrative, to celebratory and expressionistic. Gezelle’sfavourite themes are childhood, the Flemish landscape, friendship, nature, religion and the Flemish vernacular, and his apparently simple poems conceal a sophisticated prosody and a dialogue with spiritual and literary tradition. However, an important barrier to wider international recognition of his lyric genius up to now has been the absence of translations that do justice to the vigour and musicality of Gezelle’sWest Flemish idiom. Two of the translations included go some way to redressing the balance: ‘TheWatter-Scriever’ by Scotland’s national poet Edwin Morgan and ‘A Little Leaf . . .’ by Francis Jones. Both translators make brilliant use of their own vernaculars (Glaswegian and North Yorkshire respectively) to bring Gezelleto life for the non-Dutch-speaking reader.
