Book Description
The future South is not what it used to be. In the year 2020, three children of the South find themselves embroiled in a tangled plot of sex, music, and violence. As they face the destructive excesses of the modern world, they must examine their place in history in order to forge meaning from their solitary lives. Depicting characters' experiences with their own black identity, Everybody Knows exposes the tragic absurdities of life in the 21st century. Written in one of the most unique prose styles to appear in recent years, this innovative novel pulls from a vast range of cultural sources, from German philosophy to contemporary R&B. An examination of both love and oppression, Everybody Knows is a comment on the spiritual condition of modern America.

Book Description
This book provides a succinct commentary on our daily lives. Each page introduces an observation that, for most readers, will bring back memories from their own life. It provides a fun look at things we are very familiar and think we know a lot about. The book acknowledges this knowledge in the first part of the title "Everybody Knows." It then goes on to add a series of thoughts and points we most likely did not know. Sometimes this comes in the form of a new twist or thought. Other times it comes in the form of obscure, but interesting new facts on the topic, or maybe intriguing points from a survey. Hence, the book carries the conflicting second part of the title "Yet Nobody Really Knows." Now we can laugh and smile at what we knew while we think about a new twist on this and then enjoy collecting new tidbits of knowledge we never knew. This will provide a rich collection of thoughts sprinkled with new intriguing facts and tidbits we can't wait to share with our friends. So how is this accomplished? The thought of each page is presented in a simple four to six line poem where each line rhymes. This is done as a fun way to introduce the thought and encourage reflection on the topic at the same time. A short afterthought follows enhancing the thought. Even though these thoughts are about common experiences, they frequently carry unusual insight. The second half of each page contains a series of interesting facts, quotes, survey results, or maybe a short story providing commentary on the thought. Here many new and interesting points are shared. Over 500 online references are provided allowing additional reading on many of these new and interesting points. The book looks at a wide range of thoughts from personal and family topics, to school and work, and those we find as we travel out and about in the world. The book closes by spending some time on some specific character traits that will uplift and inspire.

Book Description
Sexting. Cyberbullying. Narcissism. Social media has become the dominant force in young people's lives, and each day seems to bring another shocking tale of private pictures getting into the wrong hands, or a lament that young people feel compelled to share their each and every thought with the entire world. Drawing on a large-scale survey and interviews with students on thirteen college campuses, Freitas finds that what young people are overwhelmingly concerned with--what they really want to talk about--is happiness. The Happiness Effect is an eye-opening window into their first-hand experiences of social media and its impact on them.

Book Description
SPOON ME will keep you up like a line of cocaine on the Queens nipple, put you down like a vomiting baby, move your sofa like a friend with a bad back, decline your invitation like it conflicted with a tour of a chocolate factory, offer you advice like your own mother after two shots of tequila, spur your advances like a date with the Pope, and make sense of all your Mustang Ranch marriage licenses like a Nevada judge. Written in gold silk from the melted remains of Egyptian gods by an eighth century mystic on the quills of an extinct peacock species and then recovered on the bottom of the ocean by a shark-bitten surfer, SPOON ME is that rare work of fiction that comes along suddenly and ends up in your bed, curled around your body, keeping you warm, snuggling and nestling against you so you feel that rare sense of perfection in the moment as it is actually happening. It is a book that whispers to you, that you can whisper to spoon me

Book Description
SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2023 EDWARD STANFORD TRAVEL WRITING AWARDS TRAVEL BOOK OF THE YEAR One woman, one bike and one richly entertaining, perception-altering journey of discovery. In 2015, as the Syrian War raged and the refugee crisis reached its peak, Rebecca Lowe set off on her bicycle across the Middle East. Driven by a desire to learn more about this troubled region and its relationship with the West, Lowe's 11,000-kilometre journey took her through Europe to Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, the Gulf and finally to Iran. It was an odyssey through landscapes and history that captured her heart, but also a deeply challenging cycle across mountains, deserts and repressive police states that nearly defeated her. Plagued by punctures and battling temperatures ranging from -6 to 48C, Lowe was rescued frequently by farmers and refugees, villagers and urbanites alike, and relied almost entirely on the kindness and hospitality of locals to complete this living portrait of the modern Middle East. This is her evocative, deeply researched and often very funny account of her travels - and the people, politics and culture she encountered. 'Terrifically compelling ... bursting with humour, adventure and insight into the rich landscapes and history of the Middle East. Lowe recounts the beauty, kindnesses and complexities of the lands she travels through with an illuminating insight. A wonderful new travel writer.' Sir Ranulph Fiennes
