Book Description
For the first time in a single volume, this book brings together more than 150 of the best walks, tracks or trails in Victoria, which can be walked, cycled or driven by the moderately fit individual. They are located in national and state parks, state forests, conservation reserves, historic parks and local government and public easements. Other routes follow state highways, old railways and gold routes, or pass bushranger haunts and back roads linking towns, historical and geological or geographical features. Most of the routes chosen do not require specialist navigation or bushcraft skills, and vary from a short 45 minutes on a boardwalk to four-day long-distance walking and camping. Walks, Tracks and Trails of Victoria covers the best the state has to offer, from deserts to coastal and mountain environments. It highlights the features of each location and encourages you to enjoy the experience at an informed level. Easy-to-interpret maps are included to help you navigate, and the book’s size makes it convenient to bring with you on your adventures.

Book Description
Transitioning from place to place has been identified as a key marker of many teachers’ lives. Notions of place and transition have been researched for new teachers as they move from university to rural teaching positions; and, for experienced teachers who may move from school to school, town to city, city to rural town. Since 2002, the Bush Tracks Research Group has explored the lived experience of teachers in rural schools. Bush Tracks: The Opportunities and Challenges of Rural Teaching and Leadership is a compilation of more than a decade of research conducted by this multidisciplinary group of academics from the University of New England, New South Wales, Australia. Employing a variety of methodologies, these researchers have worked to understand the intimate lives of teachers working in rural schools – the personal and professional challenges of being in relentlessly close proximity to students and their families; the supports needed to continue professional pathways; and the opportunities for accelerated leadership, all while living in the ‘fishbowl’ of a rural community. Chapters also explore the working lives of small school principals, specifically, some of the innovative methods they use to circumvent metrocentric policies; how ingenuity can resolve challenging teaching and leadership situations; and, what can be done to reconcile sometimes conflicting roles. This book will be of interest to all teachers who have ‘gone bush’, or have ever wanted to; and, to teacher educators who want a text that is nuanced in discussing the challenges and opportunities of teaching in rural schools.

Book Description
Victoria Off the Beaten Track describes sixty plus of the state's top 4WD trails, from the desert north-west to remote mountain hideaways, and from the coast to mountain bushland. Many traverse remote and rugged country, where well prepared adventurers can enjoy the challenge of back country tracks, whilst others are closer to home. More than a description of trips, it provides comprehensive track notes, tour maps, camping information, planning advice and describes the main highlights of various trips, from high country huts and forgotten gold fields to forest canopies and rare fauna and flora. As well, advice on technique, such as driving in sand, mud or snow, water crossings, handling steep climbs and overgrown tracks is included, as well as tips on basic vehicle recovery, winching, tyre pressures, bush navigation, bush camping and communications.
