Book Description
A small gamma probe operable between 100 mr/hr and 103 r/hr was built to measure gamma ray intensities near a large nonuniform source or in a large nonuniform field. The sensitive element, a thallium-activated sodium iodide crystal, is observed by a phototube. Four applications of the unit are described.

Book Description
Design criteria were established following a survey among radiac specialists in the three services, and among Laboratory personnel and civil defense instructors. The resulting design includes these features: (1) A lowimpe ance circuit giving 20% accuracy from -40 to +50 C, with no zero drift; (2) A 50-cu in. belt-carried package which satisfied Mil-E-16400 environment specifications; (3) Gamma rate from 1 to 1,000 rad/hr, skin-dose rate to 5,000 rad/hr (from a separable probe), each indicated on several linear meter scales; and (4) A connector for a four-decade, low-range probe, and other possible auxiliary probes. Six prototypes have been fabricated. Work is continuing toward packaging the low-range probe and toward reducing costs of manufacture. (Author).

Book Description
A portable high range multi-purpose radiation detection instrument is described. The device performs three separate functions: (1) measurement of gamma dose rate (2) measurement of beta plus gamma dose rate and (3) measurement of beta dose rate in the presence of gamma radiation (by means of gamma cancellation). The ranges of operation for each of these functions are 0 - 2 rad/hr, 0 - 10 rad/hr, 0 - 100 rad/hr, and 0 - 1000 rad/hr in tissue under selected physical conditions. The radiac consists of a dual ionization chamber detector, an electrometer amplifier, and two transistorized power supplies. It is powered by two type D flashlight batteries and will operate continuously in excess of 90 hours with 10% meter light operation. The report covers performance data, design factors, and construction details of the instruments.

Book Description
A wide range radiac instrument was developed to measure gamma radiation dose-rates from 1 mR/hr to 1000 R/hr in six linear ranges. The circuit is a hybrid type using an ion chamber for the four high ranges of 0-1, 10, 100, 1000 R/hr, and a G.M. tube, for the two low ranges 0-10, 100 mR/hr, contained in a detachable probe. An interesting feature of the circuit is the solid-state electrometer amplifier which uses insulated gate field-effect transistors in the input stage and its combination with a Geiger Mueller frisking probe to attain increased sensitivity.
