Many themes are conveyed in this issue (2022): the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the power of a cultural complex in Israel, the Shakespearean concept of “Time is out of joint” and Pasolini’s Oedipus Re, AIDS, death and the analyst, transgender individuation, sufferings and individuation, personal memories of the Yom Kippur War, the patient/analyst confrontation in the analytical room and the problematic behavior of the analyst, mothers and fathers, leaving, returning, devotion, new birth, the wait and the end of certainties. JUNGIANEUM/Yearbook is one of many initiatives by Jungianeum: Contemporary Initiatives for Analytical Psychology and Neo-Jungian Studies. Under this umbrella, since 2022, Stefano Carpani developed a series of initiatives called: JUNGIANEUM/books, JUNGIANEUM/talks, JUNGIANEUM/ masterclasses, JUNGIANEUM/biennale and more. In summer 2022, in partnership with Chiron Publications, Carpani launched a series called JUNGIANEUM/books: Re-Covered Classics in Analytical Psychology, aimed at (re)publishing masterpieces in analytical psychology that, for different reasons, are out of the market and find difficulty in getting (re)published. As of January 2023, PSYCHOSOCIAL WEDNESDAYS were incorporated under the umbrella of JUNGIANEUM/talks. In September 2023, Pacifica Graduate Institute (CA/USA) and Jungianeum will release a PGI Graduate Certificate Course: Contemporary Analytical Psychology and Neo-Jungian Studies: The Relevance of C.G. Jung to the Socio-Cultural Challenges of the 21st Century. As per Carpani’s Youtube interviews, published books, and papers, these initiatives will continue to help Jung’s psychology become visible and audible, therefore, impactful for individuals and collectives, who benefit, respectively, from Jungian therapy and theory in shaping policy and society.

Human flourishing depends upon the mental health of the individuals. Throughout history, various cultural traditions have established and practiced diverse strategies to maintain their community members' mental health, treat their mental illness, and enhance their well-being. They range from spiritual disciplines, religious rituals, and philosophical training, to communal activities, educational instructions, and community support. It is noteworthy that aesthetic objects and activities are frequently integrated into these strategies. They include visual arts, music, dance, story-telling, theatre, and occasions and events made special by certain foods, drinks, decorations, clothes, and fragrance. This long-held and widely-practiced integration of aesthetics into promotion of mental health testifies to the power of the aesthetic to affect the well-being of humans and their communities. The world's major philosophies and religious traditions have recognized this power of the aesthetic. For example, Plato's proposed censorship of the arts in his utopian Republic indicates his acknowledgement of, and a respect for, the power of the arts to mold the citizens' psyche and character. Confucianism also utilizes arts and rituals to promote moral virtues. Finally, Buddhism teaches the cultivation of mindful practice for human flourishing by developing an alternative relationship with present-moment experience such as suffering and distress. Today, the most dominant methods of treating mental illness in the West are psychotherapy, psychology, and psychiatry, methodologies and practices established and developed in Europe since the nineteenth century. Ever since the birth of art and poetry, its purpose has been to inspire, stir and move people. This handbook addresses the valuable role aesthetics plays in psychotherapy and psychiatry exploring both theory and practice.

In the last twenty years, transnational perspectives have gained momentum in the field of historical-educational research. Scholars have made substantial efforts to rethink nation-based historiographies by reconstructing and reinterpreting the cross-border encounters and intertwined processes that have turned the history of education into a transnational enterprise. A closer look at specific transnational spaces furthers a better understanding of these processes. Against this backdrop, the book offers case studies focusing on transatlantic encounters with special regard to the manifold entanglements between Germany and the United States of America that represent one of the most complex, dynamic, and vivid educational spaces between the eighteenth and twentieth century.
