Book Description
NOW A MAJOR TV DRAMA STARRING MARTIN CLUNES What does it take to catch one of Britain's most feared killers? Levi Bellfield is one of the most notorious British serial killers of the last fifty years - his name alone evokes horror and revulsion, after his string of brutal murders in the early 2000s. At 3:07pm on 21st March, 2002, Milly Dowler left her school in Surrey for the last time. Less than an hour later, she was to be abducted and murdered in the cruellest fashion, sparking a missing person investigation that would span months before her body was found. In the two years that followed, two more young women - Marsha McDonnell and then Amélie Delagrange - were murdered in unspeakably brutal attacks. Yet with three murdered women on their hands, and few leads open to them, investigating officers were running out of ideas and options, until SIO Colin Sutton was drafted into the investigation for the murder of Delagrange. Seeing a connection between the three women, and thriving under the pressure of a serial killer hunt, Sutton was finally able to bring their murderer to justice after the case had begun to seem hopeless. Manhunt tells the story of how he led the charge to find a mystery killer, against the clock and against the odds - day by day and lead by lead. At once a gripping police procedural, and an insight into the life of an evil man, this is the story behind what it takes to track down a shockingly violent murderer before he strikes again.

Book Description
The chaise-longue by Le Corbusier, the radio by Rams, the chair by Eames – designers make things into cult objects and become icons themselves. But who knows which coupé was designed by Frua, which limousine by Engel, which station wagon by Opron? For a long time, car design was considered to be anonymous, the designers stood in the shadow of the perception of the design, even though their designs can be found on the roads in millions. This richly illustrated book captures the origin of a profession and maps the development of car design based on a comprehensive introduction and the career biographies of over 200 selected designers who contributed to the design of cars and many different associated products in the USA, Europe, and Japan between 1900 and 2000.

Book Description
Safely convicting criminals relies on finding the truth. But what is the truth and can we ever get the complete picture? Convicting Britain’s Most Ruthless Criminals is a collection of serious crime cases in modern Britain. It gives a detailed insight into the amassing of evidence for the prosecution and how the truth can be uncovered, given that there is always a piece of evidence missing, whether it is a hidden fortune, an elusive murder weapon or even an undiscovered body. Drawing on unique access to the case files and speeches of a leading crown prosecutor combined with expert witness information, these are fascinating stories of criminal acts, their perpetrators, and how they were brought to justice by putting together a jigsaw of evidence, much of which has never been revealed before, which includes ballistics, pathology, mobile phone records and CCTV analysis. Enough to get as close to the real truth as possible, given that the picture of each jigsaw is never completely revealed. There is the case of an appeal by woman who was convicted of killing her husband decades ago, a bungled robbery that ended up as murder, a staged gem heist only uncovered years later during a plea-bargaining exercise, a death in police custody, a serial killer who decided to confess, and a brothel keeper maintaining that he was simultaneously providing a community service whilst servicing the Greek national debt. The cases are intertwined with stories and anecdotes including the juror who ended up being convicted, how the gangland drugs scene became big business and why there is so much dressing up in court.

Book Description
On Monday 30 April 2007, five men were convicted of terrorist offences relating to a plot to detonate a fertiliser bomb in the UK in 2004. The arrests were the result of a police and MI5 operation codenamed CREVICE. Following the trial, the media reported that, at the time MI5 had been investigating CREVICE, the bomb plotters had been in contact with two unidentified men now known to be Mohammed Siddique Kahn and Shazad Tanweer, two of the four men who, on 7 July 2005, detonated bombs on the London transport system, killing 52 people and injuring several hundred others. This report investigates why MI5, knowing of Khan and Tanweer, did not prevent the 2005 bombings. Part A examines what happened in Operation CREVICE and subsequently. Part B describes when MI5 came across some of the 7/7 bombers and the questions these events raise. Part C of the report considers the wider picture and lessons to be learnt. The CREVICE conspirators made over 4,000 telephone-based contacts and met many people. Throughout 2004 and 2005 these were being investigated by MI5 as they pursued other plots and unearthed still more people of interest on the sidelines of each plot. Although Khan and Tanweer were amongst those of interest, though still unidentified, they were never put under surveillance as, based on what was known about them at the time, they did not merit resources being diverted to them (as opposed to other individuals known to be involved in attack planning). The Committee cannot criticise the judgments made by MI5 and the police based on the information they had and their priorities at the time. An update to the report outlines the reason for the delay in publication pending completion of other legal proceedings and gives further evidence uncovered recently.
