Book Description
Excerpt from Unitarianism Philosophically and Theologically Examined, Vol. 2: In a Series of Periodical Numbers; Comprising a Complete Refutation of the Leading Principles of the Unitarian System He truly worships and piously celebrates the solemnity of this day, dearly beloved, who neither conceives of the incarna tion Of the Lord any thing that is erroneous, nor of the Deity any thing that is unworthy of it. For it is an evil Of equal danger, either to deny him the truth of our nature, or his equality with the glory of the Father. When, therefore, we set about to understand the mystery of the birth of Christ, by which he was born of a virgin mother, let the darkness of human reasoning be driven far away, and let the smoke rthly wisdom depart from the eye of enlighten ed faith. Authority on which we believe is divine, di vine is the doctrine which we follow. For whether we give ear to the attestations ofthe old law, to the oracles of the pro phets, or to the evangelical trumpet, that which St. John, frlled with the Holy Ghost, thundered out, is true. Excerpt from Unitarianism Philosophically and Theologically Examined, Vol. 7: In a Series of Periodical Numbers; Comprising a Complete Refutations of the Leading Principles of the Unitarian System Thus, if religion deeply mourns at the rise of new errors, it is not, because she fears for bafowu preservation, but, because she apprehends lest some of her children be seduced by the charm of novelty, and thus suffer shipwreck of their faith, Unitarianism, whose confutation we have undertaken, will, no doubt, share the fate of all former sects, and of other human inventions, for the oracle of Christ will, at all times, he literfly verified Every plant, which my heavenly Father has not planted, shall be rooted up. Still, as this new sect ia trudes itself on the public under the seducing cloak of relit gion, although it evidently saps the very foundations of Chris tianity, the author of these numbers thought, it would be ren dering service to the uninformed and unsuspecting part of the community, to lay before them the unshaken principles, on which the edifice of the Christian religion is based, and the palpable inconsistencies, into which those must inevitably run, that dare attack so grand, so noble, and so majestic an edifice. To reclaim some from error, and to caution others against seduction, is the only object of the author, who will deem himself amply rewarded for his labour, if he be but happy enough to succeed in saving one immortal soul, which.
