DESCRIPTION (The story is in English) Victoria Memorial is an icon of Kolkata of West Bengal in India. It was constructed during the British Rule by the then Vice Roy Lord Curzon in the memory of Queen Victoria who passed away in the year 1901. To commemorate her memory this beautiful monument was built in the heart of the city within a very large area near Maidan - a popular place of Kolkata city. It is made up of white marble brought from Makrana of Rajasthan. It was started in the year 1906 and completed in 1920, thus nearly 14 years took for its marvellous construction. Sir William Emerson designed its construction and M/S Martin & Co – a highly reputed civil contractor constructed it.
