Book Description
Traffic congestion affects towns and cities everywhere and in some places it is regarded as one of the most urgent and important problems in need of a solution. Road pricing is undoubtedly recognised as an effective traffic demand management tool. The recent London congestion charging scheme seems to be showing that public and political opposition is not insurmountable. Thus, the ghost that prevented the introduction of a policy supported by transport economists for over 80 years seems to have disappeared or at least, weakened. The book contains twelve papers useful to different types of audience, such as researchers and postgraduate students, civil servants, policy makers and consultants. The first part is mainly theoretical and concentrates on second-best congestion pricing including pricing in urban contexts, the impact on the performance of the road network, optimal locations and charge levels, dynamic aspects such as time variation of tolls, potential impacts of road pricing on costs and service quality of public transport buses, and efficiency costs and transport sector effects of different types of pricing when they guarantee a balanced budget per mode. The second part contains chapters that describe the schemes in place around the world such as Singapore, Norway, London, and the US. The volume is an update of the state of the art on the subject and the first one to have been written and appear after the London scheme was implemented and to contain an assessment of its preliminary impacts.

Book Description
"To raise awareness of land use and frame the issues for future research and discussion, the ULI Infrastructure Initiative convened a group of experts, including leaders representing transportation and land development, to participate in workshops and interviews conducted in the summer of 2012. Study participants explored scenarios constructed as part of a thought experiment on how land development in metropolitan areas would be affected by the spread of congestion pricing, the expansion of tolled highways, or the adoption of taxes on vehicle-miles travelled (VMT). The ULI Infrastructure Initiative also developed five brief case studies of tolling in Florida, Texas, California, Colorado and Maryland. The case studies illustrate the different policy options for managing travel reliability, traffic volume, travel speeds, and revenue targets and for integrating tolling and transit service. They also explore how these new tolled facilities are being coordinated with land use and development."--Executive summary, P. 1.

Book Description
Value-based pricing – pricing a product or service according to its value to the customer rather than its cost – is the most effective and profitable pricing strategy. Value First, Then Price is an innovative collection that proposes a quantitative methodology to value pricing and road-tests this methodology through a wide variety of real-life industrial and B2B cases. This book offers a state-of-the art and best practice overview of how leading companies quantify and document value to customers. In doing so, it provides students and researchers with a method by which to draw invaluable data-driven conclusions, and gives sales and marketing managers the theories and best practices they need to quantify the value of their products and services to industrial and B2B purchasers. The 2nd edition of this highly-regarded text has been updated in line with current research and practice, offering three new chapters covering new case studies and best practice examples of quantified value propositions, the future of value quantification, and value quantification for intangibles. With contributions from global industry experts this book combines cutting edge research on value quantification and value quantification capabilities with real-life, practical examples. It is essential reading for postgraduate students in Sales and Marketing with an interest in Pricing Strategy, sales and pricing specialists, as well as business strategists, in both research and practice.

Book Description
This chapter focuses on automobile-oriented pricing, including discussion of its impact on other travel modes. The emphasis is on areawide, corridor, and individual facility pricing schemes for urbanized areas, although one particularly instructive example of an intercity value pricing project is offered. Toll roads with static pricing are not considered within the realm of road value pricing or the scope of this chapter, but are looked to for specific relevant lessons. Pricing of parking, which can have similarities to road value pricing, is covered in Chapter 13. This chapter, Chapter 14, will be of interest to transit and transportation planning practitioners; educators and researchers; and professionals across a broad spectrum of transportation agencies, metropolitan planning organizations, and local, state, and federal government agencies.
