Few schools and institutions provide guidance and counseling programs and psychology services in Lebanon. According to the research paradigm adopted on roles and functions by Ivey & Robin (1966), directors, teachers, and parents are among the most important definers of the role functions of the school psychologist. This study was intended to determine need for school psychology services in schools and to compare priority of categories of role functions as perceived by definer groups selected from high and middle socioeconomic status schools in Beirut. The population included directors, teachers and parents of high and middle socioeconomic status schools in Beirut area. The sample had all directors, a selected number of elementary, intermediate, and secondary teachers of the selected schools, and a similar selected number of students' parents. A likert 5 point scale questionnaire was constructed to gather information on school psychology services, perception of different definer groups on need for school psychology role functions, and the school psychologist as a referral agent for the problems encountered at schools. The questionnaire was distributed to all the respondents with a cover letter that explained the purpose of the study. Totals, means and percentages were obtained. A series of chi-squared were calculated to compare levels of perceived need among and within different definer groups.
