Book Description
Meet the Governor who read the Bible to Sally Rand; English Bob, the nose-biter, and all the luscious damozels, in this fabulous potpourri of stories by Billy Rose, author of the syndicated column PITCHING HORSESHOES. Here is the magic that won 18,000,000 newspaper readers for Billy Rose, the little guy who has crowded into one lifetime such unusual distinctions as (1) giving dictation to President Wilson, (2) combining dampness and damozels into the world’s first Aquacade, (3) going into the nightclub business because he wanted to wear a black hat and meet some girls. “The contents of this book could almost be summarized on a picture-postcard: ‘Having a wonderful time. Wish you were here.’ But Billy Rose does more than wish you were there. He takes you there and lets you share the fun.”—Deems Taylor “Billy Rose is New York’s most sparkling troubadour. Billy came out of a bonfire called Broadway. His book is full of its quick blaze, its sudden warmth and seven wonders.”—Ben Hecht “To me, Billy Rose is the Uncle Remus of Broadway. His book combines nostalgic incident with notes on a weird array of characters. If the Book-of-the-Month doesn’t take it, Billy ought to buy his own month and show them.”—Fred Allen

Book Description
From Nobel laureate, world-renowned doctor, and noted human rights activist Dr. Denis Mukwege comes an inspiring clarion call-to-action to confront the scourge of sexual violence and better learn from women's resilience, strength, and power. At the heart of Dr. Mukwege’s message will be the voices of the many women he has worked with over the years. Dr. Mukwege will use individual cases to reassure all survivors that, even if their psychological wounds may never fully heal, they can recover and thrive with the right care and support. Dr. Mukwege’s dramatic personal story is interwoven throughout as he explores the bigger issues that have become a focus of his advocacy. He will seek to explain why sexual violence is so often overlooked during war, and how governments need to recognize and compensate victims. He will also stress the importance of breaking down the taboos surrounding assault, and the necessity of building a system that supports women who come forward. His words advocate for saying ‘no’ to indifference and he asks readers to reckon with the West’s involvement in perpetuating sexual violence in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo, and to confront the abuse taking place in their own communities. Sexual violence does not occur in a vacuum. The conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has raged for over 20 years and has claimed an estimated 5 million lives, is inseparable from Western patriarchy and economic colonization. And this cycle of violence and spoils is not limited to Congo. Dr. Mukwege’s work has led him to South Korea, Latin America, the Middle East, and elsewhere in Africa, where he has found striking similarities in women’s testimonies. The truth is, through the intricate ties of the global economy, we are all implicated in violence against women – whether it occurs amidst the fighting in the Democratic Republic of Congo or on college campuses in the West. And Dr. Mukwege’s writing will address men as well, encouraging and guiding them to become allies in the fight against sexual abuse, in war and in peace. Building more inclusive, gender-balanced societies will require developing what he calls “positive masculinity” – a systemic change in male behavior and attitudes towards women. Dr. Mukwege hopes to inspire other men to speak out and join the struggle, rather than leaving women to fight the battle alone. He will also make the case, drawing from his experience and a wealth of research on the topic, that when women are involved as economic and political decision makers, all of society benefits. The Power of Women will illuminate the enduring strength of women in the face of violence and trauma, and give hope for the potential of individuals to turn the tide.

Book Description
"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can win or wound me." We all know the power of words. Words can hurt. Words can heal. And words are sticky--lingering long after they were spoken. Do you remember hurtful words hurled at you in middle school? Have you ever found yourself in the crosshairs of gossip or wounded by the sharp words of another? No doubt, we've all experienced regret over our own words uttered in moments of frustration. You've probably also experienced the healing power of a friend's encouragement during a dark time or the blessing of someone who is willing to tell you the truth in love. In A Woman's Words, Chrystie Cole helps us understand why we struggle to speak words of life instead of death and how to overcome seven common idols that are often found at the root of our corrupted speech.

Book Description
An executive VP shares thirteen challenges women face in the workplace, their impact, and strategies for women to overcome them and achieve success. Navigating the workforce as a woman can feel like making your way through a minefield. Step too far in one direction, and suddenly, you’re considered bossy and overbearing and difficult to work with. Too far in the other, and you lose your power and voice. And if you try to stay in the middle, you could still be contributing to a long history of stagnant mind-sets that have hindered women from reaching true equality. In The B Words: 13 Words Every Woman Must Navigate for Success, Tricia Kagerer uses her experience and the experiences of other women to help women of all ages and in all walks of life achieve their goals. Kagerer identifies the challenges as —both internal and external—each as a different “B” word, that hold women back both personally and professionally, then explores their impact and outlines strategies for overcoming them. Whether that means navigating difficult relationships with coworkers, building effective professional networks, or confronting one’s own limiting beliefs and biases, Kagerer’s advice shows how we can break through these obstacles and find our way to self-defined success. This book fights for true equality in the workforce and calls for bridges to be built not only between women but between men and women as well, fostering open communication and understanding that will lead to a brighter future. Praise for The B Words “From balance and babies to badasses and bravery, this book packs a punch about living with intention.” —Sharon Orlopp, former Global Chief Diversity Officer, Walmart “The B Words is a great guide, not only for women just starting out, but also for those who have been in the business for years.” —Dr. Sally Spencer-Thomas, author & keynote speaker “A must-read for every male leader! Tricia is candid about the difficult situations women experience and rarely share.” —Jeffrey Tobias Halter, Corporate Gender Strategist & President, YWomen

Book Description
Woman's voice and body are closely entwined in the Arabo-Islamic tradition, argues Fedwa Malti-Douglas in this pioneering book. Spanning the ninth through twentieth centuries and covering a wide range of texts—from courtly anectdote to mystical and philosophical treatises, from works of geography to autobiography—this study reveals how woman's access to literary speech has remained mediated through her body. Malti-Douglas first analyzes classical texts (both well-known works like The Thousand and One Nights and others still ignored in the West) in which the female voice, often associated with wit or trickery of a sexual nature, is subordinated to the male scriptor. Showing how early Arabo-Islamic discourse continues to influence contemporary Arabic writing, she maintains that today feminist writers of novels, short stories, and autobiography must work through this tradition, even if they subvert or reject it in the end. Whereas woman in the classical period speaks through the body, woman in the modern period often turns corporeality into a literary weapon to achieve power over discourse. Fedwa Malti-Douglas is Professor of Arabic and Comparative Literature at the University of Texas, Austin. Her books include Structures of Avarice: The Bukhala' in Medieval Arabic Literature (Leiden) and Blindness and Autobiography: Al-Ayyam of Taha Husayn (Princeton). Originally published in 1991. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions.
