Book Description
This book examines and evaluates Sri Aurobindo s considerable poetic output in blank verse, his achievements in quantitative metre, a medium that had eluded English poets, and his creation of a new type of poetry that reached beyond the ranges of inspiration familiar to most poets to reveal new heights and intensities of mystical and spiritual expression. Before it was first published in 1947 it had the distinction of having been read out to Sri Aurobindo, who professed his admiration for the substance and style of this literary criticism by Sethna. The book is available again after a long time.

Book Description
In each of the volumes of Inspiration from Savitri one can be lifted to heights above mortal mind, to planes of beauty, truth and delight no previous work of literature or inspired poetry has been able to achieve. Sri Aurobindo, the Seer-Poet has created an epic so vast that it awaits the 'fit' reader whose soul is open to mantric poetry. In this present volume anothers, still works in progress, I have aspired to share my joy in the immersion of these worlds of transcendent bliss. One is thrilled at the innumerable ways Sri Aurobindo uses words and has enriched the English language, raising it to new and greater heights. There are so many examples one can choose. To mention just one, do look at the word 'Bloom' and exult in the magic of his poetic genius. For this reason and others I have included all the definitions for each word whether it be used as a noun, verb or adjective, compound word, etc. In fact, Sri Aurobindo may use the same word many times in Savitri, each time with a different meaning. Though I have read Savitri cover to cover many times in twelve years of compiling the Lexicon of An Infinite Mind, a 'Dictionary of Words and Terms in Savitri, new understandings and glimpses of the beauty of Nature and her ultimate fulfilment through the descent of the Supramental in all its power and vastness, carrying the Truth-Coonsciousness to earth and men, have through the largesse of the supreme Grace, opened much to me and continue to open more as I read Savitri again and again. The further evolution of beauty in Nature's trees and flowers, the abundance of her life-giving gifts of fruits and grains and herbs and so much more to come when the 'Life Divine' is fully manifested on earth will be evident to all in the next phase of the evolution. I hope the reader of this volume will be inspired by the quotations on animals and birds and flowers, for through the genius and brilliance of Sri Aurobindo's poetry the face of Nature is shown to usthrough the highest and most intensely beautiful lines in all their glory and plenitude. Here is only one passage of the hundreds quoted, a passage of such sweetness (I am told that sweetness is Sri Aurobindo's favorite word as it was that of Shakespeare as well), that it inspires us to aspire with all our consciousness to help the earth recover from the devastation wrought by man and assist in itsreturn to the manifestion of divine and unparalled beauty and diversity. The life of the enchanted globe became A storm of sweetness and of light and song, A revel of colour and of ecstasy, A hymn of rays, a litany of cries: A strain of choral priestly music sang And, swung on the swaying censer of the trees, A sacrifice of perfume filled the hours. --93.30-- Asocas burned in crimson spots of flame, Pure like the breath of an unstained desire White jasmines haunted the enamoured air, Pale mango-blossoms fed the liquid voice Of the love-maddened coil, and the brown bee Muttered in fragrance mid the honey-buds. --93.31-- The sunlight was a great god's golden smile. --93.32-- All Nature was at beauty's festival. --93.33--"

Book Description
Having applied the standards of modern critical theory, it may sound fruitless to account for biographical details of writer in interpreting his work as the biographical details either hold no importance or have nothing to do with the work of art in the sense that once a work of art is born, it looses its connection with the creator. Moreover, even in the moment of creation, the author remains detached from his creation. However, there are some exceptions to this. It has been observed that the biographical details are of immense help in partly making sense of what the concerned author has encoded. These details can be correlated to his writing. In the case of some writers, their life has a special relation with what they write, how they led their life, what inspiration they sought, what influences they received and imbibed in their personality, what experiences they lived with, and what events and occasions they confronted.

Book Description
Sri Aurobindo was the reveler of the Life Divine and prophet of the great epic Savitri. Both the unsurpassed titles bear divine messages but for those who could read them. But his stage-worthy plays teach his philosophical ideas through entertainments. Perhaps he wrote the plays to teach integral philosophy of life to all beings. Present work entitled Poetic Plays of Sri Aurobindo is an exhaustive study of his five blank verse drama maintaining the essential elements of drama and dramaturgy from Oriental to Occidental. In his plays, we could enjoy the dramatic art of Shakespeare and Shaw, Bhasa and Kalidasa. Sri Aurobindo was the deliverer of the whole human life and hence, this book enlightens - - how to deliberate one's own self along with the all. - how to bring hormony in individual, social, national and universal life. - how to attain Universal brotherhood by revealing oneness with all other beings. - how to build children's characters, so that, they can live a manly life, reveal universal friendship and enjoy a life divine on earth.

Book Description
In this volume passages have been selected that contain words about beauty, sweetness, wonder and more. My aspiration since the days of my youth has always been to seek, recognize and occasionally to manifest beauty in music, poetry, landscaping and life. I have found beauty in the laughter and sweetness of children, in the unity of kindred souls, in the ever changing, ever new face of Nature, in poetry and art, music and architecture and in the incomparable eyes of the Mother's look and the calm and potent peace of Sri Aurobindo's presence. Mother's words have been more than guidance, they have filled my soul with their splendour and their truth. I was once told that sweetness was Sri Aurobindo's favorite word as it was that of Shakespeare. In researching Savitri for the Inspiration volumes I found ninety-four lines containing the word 'sweet' and eighty-two lines with the word 'sweetness'! Sri Aurobindo's passages on charm, grace, marvel, splendour, loveliness and wonder are also included in this volume. It is the heart's treasure and the soul's blessing to read and be moved by the mastery of his touch, bringing the power and plenitude of mantra to man through Savitri. "Beauty is his footprint... --- This series of books contains selected categories from Savitri, ones that I have chosen because they resonate most strongly within me. They offer a method of approach enabling one to read only a few lines at a time, meditate on them and allow their mantric force to enter into the cavern of the soul where they will illumine and transform. One could easily have chosen other themes as well, as the possibilities are endless in this epic of Divine Love conquering death and the establishment of a divine life on earth. People often tell me that Savitri is 'too difficult' or 'closed' to them. To give a facile suggestion to 'Go Deeper' or to say that Savitri has been written from planes above the mind and is therefore impossible for the mind to understand, does nothing to encourage anyone to begin this marvellous adventure of consciousness and joy. The universal themes I have selected will hopefully capture the interest of one who would like to begin reading Savitri but fears it is too daunting. It is my prayer that this simple approach may inspire many who formerly found Savitri too complex and forbidding to enter into it through these elevating and life-changing themes. In the passages quoted, as in all of Savitri, one will find a richness of language and the beauty of Sri Aurobindo's poetic genius in lines that will live for all time in the soul of humanity, helping it to grow into the Light and the Life Divine. O Lord, inconceivable Splendour, may Thy Beauty spread through all the earth, may Thy Love be kindled in every heart and Thy Peace reign over all. The Mother - Prayers and Meditations July 23, 1913 Let beauty be your constant ideal: The beauty of the soul The beauty of sentiments The beauty of thoughts The beauty of action The beauty in work so that nothing comes out of your hands which is not an expression of pure and harmonious beauty. And the divine help will always be with you. The Mother In the physical world, of all things it is beauty that expressed best the Divine. The physical world is a word of form and the perfection of for is beauty. Beauty interprets, expressed, manifests the Eternal. Its role is to put all manifested nature in contact with the Eternal through the perfection of form, through harmony and a sense of the ideal which uplifts and leads towards something higher. The Mother "On Education" Beauty is Ananda taking form - but the form need not be a physical shape. One speaks of a beautiful thought, a beautiful act, a beautiful soul. What we speak of as beauty is Ananda in manifestation; beyond manifestation beauty loses itself in Ananda or, you may say, beauty and Ananda become indistinguishably one.
