Book Description
On January 30, 1892, on a field adjacent a small university’s quadrangle, just behind its New College, a mascot—the university goat—was paraded before approximately 1,500 spectators. The goat was followed by students rooting "Rah, rah, rah, ta Georgia!” for the school’s newly established athletic team. Football was about to be introduced at the University of Georgia in a contest against Mercer College. It was the first football game in the deep South. Through hundreds of spectacular photographs, Historic Photos of University of Georgia Football recounts the first nine decades of one of the most storied college football programs in the nation, beginning with its inception nearly 120 years ago. Relive Georgia football’s mostly peaks and some valleys through its 1980 season, when mascot Uga III patrolled the sidelines, fans in red and black shouted "Go You Silver Britches!” and everyone marveled "How ’Bout Them Dawgs?” as the Bulldogs captured their first undisputed national championship.

Book Description
The idea for the book, IT GETS FOGGY AT MOSSY CHEEK, was born in 1969. In order to complete my Doctorate at the University of Georgia I had to write a dissertation. I did not want to select a subject that would not have any meaning or future value. So many people write on something like "How Many Push-Ups a Rat Can Do" and it is placed in File 13 never to be heard from again. I love history. The events that have taken place in the past help mold our future. What made great people tick helps us find ourselves and improve our own lives. In light of this, I decided to do a historical study involving the Origin and Development of Carson-Newman College Athletics since 1851. Except for changing the order of certain chapters and the addition of numerous pictures the actual dissertation has stayed the same to my regret. I wanted very much to write and tell events in a more creative way but lack of time and dissertation style would not permit. Many athletes, teams and events have probably been left out but this was not intentional I assure you.

Book Description
Sport is everything, but never solely sport. The commodification of human pleasure in or about many sports led to an increased political interest and dimension with regard to the major leagues and their stars. Corruption and scandals increased, while the human being in sports was and still is very often exploited or mistreated. These problems often relate to the political dimension as well. Consequently, it seems very promising and necessary alike to take a closer look at the interrelation of sports and politics. The present volume addresses this interrelation from different angles, when talking about issues like racism, gender inequality, or classism.
