Book Description
Sue Coe’s advocacy of animal rights is unmatched in its eloquence, forcefulness, and lasting impact. She does so with a combination of extraordinary images and few words. In her unstinting insistence on tolerance and love, Coe brings us to a life-affirming philosophy that values compassion over greed, community over self, and life over capital. In 115 black-and-white woodcut illustrations for The Animals’ Vegan Manifesto, Sue Coe unleashes an outraged cry for action that takes its rightful place alongside the other great manifestoes of history. As a prize-winning artist, she bears witness to unspeakable crimes, and has long advocated that we human beings must take more responsibility for ourselves, our fellow species, and the planet. Her illustrations, in the tradition of Goya, Kollwitz, and Grosz, will be familiar to many; her paintings, drawings and prints have been exhibited in galleries and museum around the world, including New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

Book Description
The issue of zoos is not about treatment, but use; not about reform, but abolition. Zoos often pay lip-service to “education,” “enrichment,” and “conservation,” but the cruelty is systemic and follows from the idea of animals as commodities. As long as they are property, animals will continue to be treated as things, with no rights, who can be caged, bred, abused, or killed for a zoo’s profit and the public’s entertainment. In Zooicide, Sue Coe applies her bold and breathtaking artistic style to confront the institution of zoos, exposing them as a form of capitalist cruelty that is enmeshed with the violence of war, colonialism, and ecological destruction.

Book Description
This book explores Veganism through the holistic journeys and lived experiences of former vegans, with a particular focus on the impact this has on their Selfhood and identity. It delves into the complexities underpinning definitions of Veganism and vegan identities. Based on original qualitative research charting the experiences of ten former vegans, the text offers a theoretical lens for understanding evolving self-perception, identity, and experience, exploring what leads to initiating a transition in and out of Veganism and how former vegans reconcile with losing their vegan identity. Applying a Bakhtinian model of Selfhood, this book explores the tensions between ‘Voices’ representing values within social discourse, such as Veganism, and how individuals co-construct their identity and self-perception through said Voices. Chapters explore the Polyphony within Veganism and offer an insight into the embodied experience of former vegans. Each analysis chapter has been divided into three distinct Threshold-moments of beginning, middle, and end. Mapping the Holistic Journey of Former Vegans: The Polyphony within Veganism is intended for scholars and postgraduate students interested in Veganism, Selfhood and identity, and behaviour change and anyone looking to understand the context of Veganism in practice.

Book Description
Discover how your diet may affect your creativity, how going vegan is like giving yourself brain food, and how to incorporate veganism into your life. When author and certified vegan lifestyle coach Camille DeAngelis is asked how she feels satisfied on a vegan diet, she thinks of the moment in James and the Giant Peach when the Grasshopper and the Centipede fret that they have nothing to eat until James points out that they’re traveling inside an enormous piece of fruit. There is plenty, Camille reminds us in this self-help motivational book for artists and creatives. Everything we could ever want to eat, and more, is all around us. Because we live in a culture in which the eating and wearing of animals is taken for granted, we rarely recognize our limiting meat-centric mindset. But if we can employ our imagination to create worlds from scratch, we can surely use it to envision a new way of seeing ourselves in relation to the animals we eat. On the other side of this brain transformation is a lifestyle that is ideal for our own health and emotional well-being and is much more environmentally sustainable. Camille believes that creative hobbies and habits reinvigorate one’s primary work. But she knits, sews, embroiders, and bakes for the pleasure of it, too. Her productivity and brain power have been remarkable since going vegan seven years ago, and even more importantly, she no longer feels any of the frustration or uncertainty artists tend to accept as part of the creative process. If you’re a creative suffering from brain fog, A Bright Clear Mind can help. Praise for A Bright Clear Mind “If you are a maker or an artist who feels anxious, depressed or just plain not feeling up to par, I urge you to read this book. In the pages you will discover how to wake up your life force by embracing a more connected way of living and eating.” —Elise Marie Collins, author of Super Ager: You Can Look Younger, Have More Energy, A Better Memory and Live a Long and Healthy Life “DeAngelis roundly disproves the theory that plant-eaters are somber moralists . . . Getting to peer into the lives and creative processes of these vegan visionaries makes me want to write and dance and organize my cupboards and make a tofu frittata.” —Victoria Moran, author of Creating a Charmed Life and Main Street Vegan

Book Description
This inescapably controversial study envisions, defines, and theorizes an area that Laura Wright calls vegan studies. We have an abundance of texts on vegans and veganism including works of advocacy, literary and popular fiction, film and television, and cookbooks, yet until now, there has been no study that examines the social and cultural discourses shaping our perceptions of veganism as an identity category and social practice. Ranging widely across contemporary American society and culture, Wright unpacks the loaded category of vegan identity. She examines the mainstream discourse surrounding and connecting animal rights to (or omitting animal rights from) veganism. Her specific focus is on the construction and depiction of the vegan body--both male and female--as a contested site manifest in contemporary works of literature, popular cultural representations, advertising, and new media. At the same time, Wright looks at critical animal studies, human-animal studies, posthumanism, and ecofeminism as theoretical frameworks that inform vegan studies (even as they differ from it). The vegan body, says Wright, threatens the status quo in terms of what we eat, wear, and purchase--and also in how vegans choose not to participate in many aspects of the mechanisms undergirding mainstream culture. These threats are acutely felt in light of post-9/11 anxieties over American strength and virility. A discourse has emerged that seeks, among other things, to bully veganism out of existence as it is poised to alter the dominant cultural mindset or, conversely, to constitute the vegan body as an idealized paragon of health, beauty, and strength. What better serves veganism is exemplified by Wright's study: openness, debate, inquiry, and analysis.
