Implementation of self-care interventions for health and well-being
Author: World Health Organization
Publisher: World Health Organization
ISBN: 9240094881
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 105
Book Description
Self-care interventions, including for sexual and reproductive health and rights, are among the most promising new approaches to improving health and well-being, both from a health systems perspective and for the users of these interventions. Self-care interventions should be an adjunct to, rather than a replacement for, direct interaction with the health system. These interventions are increasingly being acknowledged in global initiatives, including to advance primary health care (PHC) and universal health coverage (UHC). When they are accessible, available, acceptable, and affordable, quality self-care interventions hold the promise of advancing the attainment of UHC. Building upon the latest WHO recommendations and good practice statements, this implementation guidance includes key considerations to support the introduction and scale-up of self-care interventions in countries. In implementing the global recommendations on self-care interventions for health and well-being, countries will need to adapt them to the local context, considering the economic conditions and the existing health services and facilities. This guidance is intended to assist with that process and requires interaction with all health systems building blocks to ultimately improve national health systems in terms of efficiency, responsiveness, more equitable health outcomes, and social and financial risk protection. This guidance is relevant for all settings and should, therefore, be considered as global guidance.

Author: World Health Organization
Publisher: World Health Organization
ISBN: 9240063889
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 76
Book Description
The aim of the family planning and comprehensive abortion care (FP and CAC) competencies for the primary health care workforce is to advance improvements in FP and CAC service delivery by aligning health worker education approaches with population health needs and health system demands. This document, which describes these competencies in detail, is intended to: describe competencies that are relevant to current and future health practice; and enable widespread use of the competencies for curriculum development, for pre-service education, but also for in-service education, regulation, qualifications, quality assurance, personal development, performance evaluation, recruitment, management and career progression. The competencies can be used in many ways by the following target audiences: health workers and their managers, educators, policy makers and regulators. The most relevant uses for these FP and CAC competencies will be: to define the learning outcomes/objectives for education and training, to design curriculum and learning activities and to help identify learning needs/gaps (both knowledge and hands-on techniques), whether in the context of pre-service curricula, on-the-job training, or when working towards further qualifications; as performance standards for recruitment, compiling job descriptions, performance appraisal, and for optimizing roles within the health workforce.
