The Uniting Church in Australia was established on 22 June 1977 when most congregations of the Methodist Church of Australasia, about two thirds of the Presbyterian Church of Australia and almost all the churches of the Congregational Union of Australia came together under the Basis of Union. This led to 43% of parishes in Queensland having more than one full-time or part-time staff member. This report investigates major issues as well as advantages and problems emerging in Queensland following Union, as some ministers found themselves in patterns of parish ministry for which their training and past experience had not prepared them. The report also considers group/team life; approaches to leadership; principles of group/team coherence; ministry in a multiple staff parish; training; and possible initiatives.
