Book Description
"Heidegger Studies" is an annual publication dedicated to promoting the understanding of Heidegger's thought through the interpretation of his writings. This annual review provides a forum for the thorough interpretation of the whole of Heidegger's work (including works published during his lifetime) that is called for by the ongoing publication of his "Gesamtausgabe". Indeed, "Heidegger Studies" is called for because of the breadth and significance of the new texts published in this edition. "Heidegger Studies" is international in character, and in keeping with this character it will publish papers in German, English and French.

Book Description
Ecumenism is generally done by theologians, but as Charles Morerod, OP makes clear in this groundbreaking book the divisions between Christians often have at their roots different philosophical pre-understandings. Furthermore, ecumenical dialogue itself is often conceived along lines similar to the progress one might hope to make in reconciling divergent scientific paradigms. Morerod sheds much needed light on the ecumenical issues and approaches that offer a path toward Christian unity.

Book Description
The book is the first detailed and full exegesis of the role of death in Heidegger’s philosophy and provides a decisive answer to the question of being. It is well-known that Heidegger asked the “question of being”. It is equally commonplace to assume that Heidegger failed to provide a proper answer to the question. In this provocative new study Niederhauser argues that Heidegger gives a distinct response to the question of being and that the phenomenon of death is key to finding and understanding it. The book offers challenging interpretations of crucial moments of Heidegger’s philosophy such as aletheia, the history of being, time, technology, the fourfold, mortality, the meaning of existence, the event, and language. Niederhauser makes the case that any reading of Heidegger that ignores death cannot fully understand those concepts. The book argues that death is central to Heidegger’s “thinking path” from the early 1920s until his late post-war philosophy. The book thus attempts to show that there is a unity of the early and late Heidegger often ignored by other commentators. Niederhauser argues that death is the fulcrum of Heidegger’s ontology and the turning point of the history of being. Death resurfaces at the most crucial moments of the “thinking path” – from beginning to end. The book is of interest to those invested in current debates on the ethics of dying and the transhumanist project of digital human immortality. The text also shows that for Heidegger philosophy means first and foremost to learn how to die. This volume speaks to continental and analytical philosophers and students alike as it draws on a number of diverse Heidegger interpretations and appreciates intercultural differences in reading Heidegger.

Book Description
By the time Martin Heidegger passed away on May 26th, 1976, he had become the most important and controversial philosopher of his age. While many of his former students had become important philosophers and thinkers in their own right, Heidegger also inspired countless others, like Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, and Jean-Paul Sartre. The second edition of the Historical Dictionary of Heidegger's Philosophy is an historical perspective on the development of Heidegger's thought in all its nuances and facets. Schalow and Denker cast light on the historical influences that shaped the thinker and his time through a chronology; an introductory essay; a bibliography; appendixes that include German and Greek to English glossaries of terms and a complete listing of Heidegger's writings, lectures, courses, and seminars; and a cross-referenced dictionary section offering over 600 entries on concepts, people, works, and technical terms. This volume is an invaluable resource for student and scholar alike.

Book Description
Renewing Biblical Interpretation is the first of eight volumes from the Scripture and Hermeneutics Seminar. This annual gathering of Christian scholars from various disciplines was established in 1998 and aims to re-assess the discipline of biblical studies from the foundation up and forge creative new ways for re-opening the Bible in our cultures. Including a retrospective on the consultation by Walter Brueggemann, the contributors to Renewing Biblical Interpretation consider three elements in approaching the Bible—the historical, the literary and the theological—and the underlying philosophical issues that shape the way we think about literature and history.

Book Description
A new 2024 translation of Martin Heidegger's early work "Phenomenology and Theology", originally published in 1927. This edition contains a new afterword by the Translator, a timeline of Heidegger's life and works, a philosophic index of core Heideggerian concepts and a guide for terminology across 19th and 20th century Existentialists. This translation is designed for readability and accessibility to Heidegger's enigmatic and dense philosophy. Complex and specific philosophic terms are translated as literally as possible and academic footnotes have been removed to ensure easy reading. It begins with the assertion that theology, understood here primarily as Christian theology, is a positive science, fundamentally different from philosophy, including phenomenology. This distinction is rooted in the nature of the subject matter and methodology of theology, which are oriented toward faith and the understanding of Christianity as a historical phenomenon. The paper emphasizes that theology, as a science, must be characterized not only by its positivity but also by its specific scientificity. The paper then delves into the conceptual intricacies of Christian theology, discussing how faith, especially in the Christian context, is an existential mode that transcends mere theoretical understanding. It argues that faith, and by extension theology, is not merely a set of doctrines or dogmas, but a mode of existence deeply intertwined with the historical event of Christianity. This existential dimension of faith shapes the nature of theology, making it not just a study of Christian doctrine, but an exploration of the existential implications of faith in historical and ontological terms. Thus, theological concepts are not mere abstract ideas, but are existentially significant and shape the believer's understanding of existence. This existential and historical character of theology distinguishes it from other sciences and from philosophy, including phenomenology, which is concerned with more general questions of being and existence. The paper concludes by suggesting that while theology and phenomenology are distinct, they can inform and enrich each other, especially in understanding the existential dimensions of faith and being.

Book Description
This book is animated by a shared conviction that philosophy of religion needs to change: thirteen new essays suggest why and how. The first part of the volume explores possible changes to the focus of the field. The second part focuses on the standpoint from which philosophers of religion should approach their field. In the first part are chapters on how an emphasis on faith distorts attempts to engage non-western religious ideas; on how philosophers from different traditions might collaborate on common interests; on why the common presupposition of ultimacy leads to error; on how new religious movements feed a naturalistic philosophy of religion; on why a focus on belief and a focus on practice are both mistaken; on why philosophy's deep axiological concern should set much of the field's agenda; and on how the field might contribute to religious evolution. The second part includes a qualitative analysis of the standpoint of fifty-one philosophers of religion, and also addresses issues about humility needed in continental philosophy of religion; about the implausibility of claiming that one's own worldview is uniquely rational; about the Moorean approach to religious epistemology; about a Spinozan middle way between 'insider' and 'outsider' perspectives; and about the unorthodox lessons we could learn from scriptures like the book of Job if we could get past the confessional turn in recent philosophy of religion. The goal of the volume is to identify new paths for philosophers of religion that are distinct from those travelled by theologians and other scholars of religion.

Book Description
One of the most significant philosophical works of the twentieth century, Contributions to Philosophy is also one of the most difficult. Parvis Emad, in this collection of interpretive and critical essays, unravels and clarifies this challenging work with a rare depth and originality. In addition to grappling with other commentaries on Heidegger, he highlights Heidegger's "being-historical thinking" as thinking that sheds new light on theological, technological, and scientific interpretations of reality. At the crux of Emad's interpretation is his elucidation of the issue of "the turning" in Heidegger's thought and his "enactment" of Heidegger's thinking. He finds that only when Heidegger's work is enacted is his thinking truly revealed.
