Book Description
Thermal strain hardening of nickel-free structural steels was studied, using steel specimens smelted in a 200-kg open induction furnace. The specimens were homogenized for 10 h at 1180C and reduced to 37 x 37-mm size. Thermal strain hardening was carried out at 850 and 500C. The mechanical properties, austenite concentration in the specimens, and the size of martensite needles in the latter were determined, and the experimental results tabulated. It was found that thermo-mechanical treatment of specimens at 500C with 74 percent degree of deformation yielded steel with a strength limit of 275 kg/sq mm. Best results were obtained when the specimens were tempered at 100C. It is suggested that the observed strengthening effect is due to a decrease in the size of martensite needles in the specimens.

Book Description
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters BCI (WoS). The demands now being made on metallic structures are increasingly complex, since the strains and application loading-profiles which occur are locally limited and inhomogeneous. Therefore, high-strength structures having optimised material properties have to be developed.

Book Description
Martensitic Transformation examines martensitic transformation based on the known crystallographical data. Topics covered range from the crystallography of martensite to the transformation temperature and rate of martensite formation. The conditions for martensite formation and stabilization of austenite are also discussed, along with the crystallographic theory of martensitic transformations. Comprised of six chapters, this book begins with an introduction to martensite and martensitic transformation, with emphasis on the basic properties of martensite in steels such as carbon steels. The next two chapters deal with the crystallography of martensite and discuss the martensitic transformation behavior of the second-order transition; lattice imperfections in martensite; and close-packed layer structures of martensites produced from ? phase in noble-metal-base alloys. Thermodynamical problems and kinetics are also analysed, together with conditions for the nucleation of martensite and problems concerning stabilization of austenite. The last chapter discusses the theory of the mechanism underlying martensitic transformation. This monograph will be of interest to metallurgists and materials scientists.

Book Description
Corrosion of Aluminium highlights the practical and general aspects of the corrosion of aluminium alloys with many illustrations and references. In addition to that, the first chapter allows the reader who is not very familiar with aluminium to understand the metallurgical, chemical and physical features of the aluminium alloys. The author Christian Vargel, has adopted a practitioner approach, based on the expertise and experience gained from a 40 year career in aluminium corrosion This approach is most suitable for assessing the corrosion resistance of aluminium- an assessment which is one of the main conditions for the development of many uses of aluminium in transport, construction, power transmission etc. 600 bibliographic references provide a comprehensive guide to over 100 years of related study Providing practical applications to the reader across many industries Accessible to both the beginner and the expert
