Subjective Quality Measurement of Speech
Author: Kazuhiro Kondo
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642275060
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 161
Book Description
It is becoming crucial to accurately estimate and monitor speech quality in various ambient environments to guarantee high quality speech communication. This practical hands-on book shows speech intelligibility measurement methods so that the readers can start measuring or estimating speech intelligibility of their own system. The book also introduces subjective and objective speech quality measures, and describes in detail speech intelligibility measurement methods. It introduces a diagnostic rhyme test which uses rhyming word-pairs, and includes: An investigation into the effect of word familiarity on speech intelligibility. Speech intelligibility measurement of localized speech in virtual 3-D acoustic space using the rhyme test. Estimation of speech intelligibility using objective measures, including the ITU standard PESQ measures, and automatic speech recognizers.

Improved Objective Measurements for Speech Quality Testing
Author: Thomas P Barnwell (III.)
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 213
Book Description
This report presents the results of a large study of new objective measures for speech quality. The study defined a figure-of-merit for a particular objective quality measure using correlation analysis between a data base of subjective speech quality measures and a data base of objective speech quality measures. Both data bases were derived from approximately twenty hours of coded and distorted speech. The subjective test used was the Diagnostic Acceptability Measure (DAM) developed at the Dynastat Corp. The study concentrated on three classes of objective measures: those based on a model of the ear, those based on parametric subjective quality estimate, and those based on preclassified distortion sets. All three classes of objective measures performed well, but the best results were obtained for the class of parametric measures. Keywords include: Objective testing, Subjective testing, Voice communication, Speech communications, Coding, and Speech coding.

The Assessment of Speech Quality
Author: R. S. Nickerson
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 71
Book Description
Various methods that have been used to assess the quality of speech are reviewed. These methods are organized under three general topics: unidimensional quality assessment, judging of individual speech qualities, and multidimensional scaling. The importance of effects attributable to speech material, talkers and listeners is emphasized. The desirability of objective measures of speech quality is noted and some candidate measures are discussed. Finally, the relationship between quality assessment and intelligibility testing is briefly considered.
