Changing any one component in a set of multiply connected cavities, such as the compressor discharge seal, causes flow changes throughout the entire engine. T-70O engine test data and numerical simulations of the space shuttle main engine high-pressure fuel turbopump, the four stage T-56/501D turbine, and swirl brake dynamics are cited as examples.
