John Hughlings Jackson (1835-1911) was a preeminent British neurologist who is widely recognized today as one of the leading founders of modern clinical neurology and neuroscience. Darwin depended on correspondence to collect data from all over the world and to discuss his emerging ideas with scientific colleagues, many of whom he never met in person.
