Book Description
The dam is about 15 ft. wide, 6 to 8 ft. high by 15 ft. long earthfill structure having a 2 ft. wide concrete spillway chute passing through the approximate center. It is considered to be in poor condition. The spillway chute was observed to be blocked with debris and the embankment showed indications of continual erosion at the concrete fill interface. The dam in effect acts as a full width spillway. (Author).

Book Description
Ashfield Pond Dam is an earth embankment about 775 feet long with a maximum height of about 15 feet. A 30 foot long, 14.5 foot high stone masonry and concrete stepped spillway is located about 110 feet from the east abutment. A rectangular concrete low level outlet, 4 feet wide and 1.7 feet high is located at the east end of the spillway. Phase I inspection and evaluation of Ashfield Pond Dam does not indicate conditions which would constitute an immediate hazard to human life or property. Based on enginnering judgment and the performance of the earth embankment and the outlet works, the project is considered to be in fair condition. The project has a number of deficiencies which, if not remedied, have the potential for developing into hazardous conditions. Selection of 1/2 PMF as the test flood, yields an outflow of 1698 cfs (assuming the low level outlet is closed), which is greater than the maximum spillway discharge capacity of 965 cfs and would result in an overtopping of the dam by about 0.43 feet.

Book Description
The South Barre Mill Pond dam is a small dam consisting of two adjacent concrete ogee spillways, a short earth embankment on the right side and an outlet works to a penstock at the left abutment. The present dam, constructed about 1904, was extensively damaged in the floods of 1936 and 1938 and has been reconstructed on several occasions, the latest work in 1944. The dam is in fair to good condition. There are no obvious signs of failure or conditions which would warrant urgent remedial treatment. Hydraulic analyses indicate that the spillway will not pass one-half the probable maximum flood and the spillway is considered inadequate, Recommendations for remedial work include repair of concrete at the left training wall and right spillway weir and restoration of gates to good operating condition. Additional investigation of the right spillway weir is recommended, since no data are available concerning this portion of the structure.

Book Description
Bickford Pond Dam which was built in 1970 is a 933-foot long earth dam with concrete core wall. The dam has a maximum height of 51.2 feet and includes a drop inlet spillway and box conduit outlet structure. Bickford Reservoir Dam, also known as the Bickford Dike, was built in 1970 and is a 507-foot long earth dam with a concrete core wall. The dam has a maximum height of 18.3 feet. There are no spillways or outlet structures at this dam. The following deficiencies were observed at Bickford Pond Dam: seepage through cracks and joints in the box conduit outlet structure; unmonitored seepage through core wall toe drains and downstream slope toe drains; siltation and partial blockage of discharge ditches from toe drains; riprap dislodged from the upstream face of the dam; cracked, spalled and eroded concrete in the box conduit and spillway; growth of brush and saplings through riprap on upstream face of dam; and tire ruts along the top of the dam. The following deficiencies were observed at the Bickford Reservoir Dam: unmonitored seepage through downstream slope toe drains; growth of brush and saplings through riprap on upstream face of dam; and growth of brush and saplings on downstream face of dam; and growth of brush and saplings on downstream face of dam. The test flood would overtop the Bickford Pond Dam by 0.2 foot and Bickford Reservoir Dam by 0.1 foot. Hydraulic analyses indicate that the spillway can discharge 5,100 cfs, or 93 percent of the test flood outflow before the dam is overtopped.

Book Description
Congamond Lakes North Dike impounds North Pond which is one of the three ponds which make up the Congamond Lakes. All of the three ponds, North Pond, South Pond and Middle Pond are interconnected by culverts or bridges. Together the three ponds are approximately three miles long and up to one-third mile wide with a total surface area of about 465 acres. The North Dike was constructed to replace an earlier dike (which plugged an old canal) and which failed in 1955. The North Dike is approximately 80 feet long with a maximum height of 29 feet. The present condition of the dike is fair. There is no spillway nor regulating gates at North Dike. The present outlet for the lakes is at Middle Pond where Berkshire Avenue crosses Great Brook about 2 miles to the south of North Dike. During annual floods, the direction of flow in Great Brook reverses itself and flows back towards Congamond Lakes. The outlet structure at Berkshire Avenue has stoplogs which are inserted to prevent Great Brook from flooding back into the lakes. While the stoplogs are in place, Congamond Lakes has no outlet. After the flood stage of Great Brook recedes, the stoplogs are removed and Congamond Lakes are allowed to drain. The PMF inflow into Congamond Lakes, assuming that the stoplogs are in place at Berkshire Avenue would cause the lake level to rise to approximate elevation 232 MSL which is about 2 feet below the top of the dike.

Book Description
The dam consists of a central 46 foot wide concrete spillway flanked by earthen embankments. The western embankment has a length of 250 feet and the eastern embankment has a length of about 280 feet. The dam has a size classification of intermediate and a hazard classification of low. The dam is in generally good condition. It is felt, however, that certain items which are generally normal maintenance and operational procedures need attention. The spillway will pass only 12% of the test flood outflow; the embankment will be overtopped by 3 feet.

Book Description
The dam is a run-of-the-river type structure consisting of a 17 ft. high concrete overflow spillway and a 13 ft. high rockfill dike. The total height of the structure is 23 ft. from the top of the dike to the streambed at the toe of the spillway. There are deficiencies which must be corrected to assure the continual performance of this dam. The dam has been classified as intermediate in size with a hazard potential of high.

Book Description
The dam is a stone masonry gravity dam having a hydraulic height of 26 ft., 100 ft. long, 9 ft. wide at the crest, and a vertical downstream face. The dam is in poor condition and it appears that maintenance of the structure has been neglected. It is small in size with a hazard potential of high. Assuming that the flood plain of the Deerfield River is not already inundated, a major breach of the dam would cause flooding of 2 to 3 feet in the area near the downstream elementary school.
