Book Description
A skeptic's logical explanations of empirical data on existence, god, morality and other interconnective ideas. Ever since my college philosophy days, I have always dubbed my approach as 'skeptistic thinking.' This is my comprehensive summation and overview of my philosophical, metaphysical, existential and theological journey over the last 40+ years. This short book is designed to create discussions by looking at the existence of reality, the nature of (G)god and our moral obligations within this world. It is a logical approach that seeks to explain those things through empirical observations, logical deductions and basic reasoning skills. It is designed to be understandable from both an entry level into a philosophical and theological discussions as well as still being detailed enough that seasoned readers will be able to create there own new discussions. I do not claim any divine knowledge or hidden secrets to life. I use logic and reason to look at as many areas of study as possible to find common threads in of truth that transcends nature, religious practices and societal norms. It is through a systematic overview of all studies simultaneously that we are able to logically deduce the fundamental principles of reality, our existence within it, (G)god and our moral obligations. The purpose of this book is to create discussions and thoughts on topics. It may be a starting point for some, or a point of interest for others already walking their own journey. In either case, I hope it gives you something to think about and explore in your own thoughts and discussions.

The Illusion Is Not the Conclusion - My Victorious Journey
Author: Paulette Ravenel Woodside
Publisher: WestBow Press
ISBN: 1512711950
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 99
Book Description
Choose ye this day whom ye will serve! We can choose to serve fear or to serve God by having faith in Him. When we begin to worry, we allow doubt to overtake us. Doubt leads to fear, and at this point, we leave the natural fear and embrace the spirit of fear that God has not given us. God has given us His Word, which promises life. He has given us direction in His Word that assures us that He desires for us to be in good health (3 John 1:2); He wants us to trust Him and not doubt; He told us, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Therefore, instead of embracing fear and putting our faith in the situation the crippler has presented us, we need to put our faith and reverence in the God who can heal any situation the crippler has been allowed to bring our way. God suggested that His beloved servant, Job, be tested. Satan needs Gods permission to confront Gods children. The reality is Gods children have the power to take authority over the hands of the enemy, and if he is allowed to touch Gods people, he definitely does not have permission to touch our souls.

Belief, Inference, and the Self-Conscious Mind
Author: Eric Marcus
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0192845632
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 172
Book Description
It is impossible to hold patently contradictory beliefs in mind together at once. Why? Because we know that it is impossible for both to be true. This impossibility is a species of rational necessity, a phenomenon that uniquely characterizes the relation between one person's beliefs. Here, Eric Marcus argues that the unity of the rational mind--what makes it one mind--is what explains why, given what we already believe, we can't believe certain things and must believe certain others in this special sense. What explains this is that beliefs, and the inferences by which we acquire them, are constituted by a particular kind of endorsement of those very states and acts. This, in turn, entails that belief and inference are essentially self-conscious: to hold a belief or to make an inference is at the same time to know that one does. An examination of the nature of belief and inference, in light of the phenomenon of rational necessity, reveals how the unity of the rational mind is a function of our knowledge of ourselves as bound to believe the true. Rational self-consciousness is the form of mental togetherness.

Belief, Truth and Knowledge
Author: D. M. Armstrong
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521087063
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 246
Book Description
A wide-ranging study of the central concepts in epistemology - belief, truth and knowledge. Professor Armstrong offers a dispositional account of general beliefs and of knowledge of general propositions. Belief about particular matters of fact are described as structures in the mind of the believer which represent or 'map' reality, while general beliefs are dispositions to extend the 'map' or introduce casual relations between portions of the map according to general rules. 'Knowledge' denotes the reliability of such beliefs as representations of reality. Within this framework Professor Armstrong offers a distinctive account of many of the main questions in general epistemology - the relations between beliefs and language, the notions of proposition, concept and idea, the analysis of truth, the varieties of knowledge, and the way in which beleifs and knowledge are supported by reasons. The book as a whole if offered as a contribution to a naturalistic account of man.
