Este libro presenta un análisis de las concepciones de profesores de matemáticas (de Secundaria y Universidad) y sus modos de enfrentarse a problemas matemáticos. Dicho análisis se lleva a cabo con 9 profesores y se halla inmerso en una metodología cualitativa de la investigación. Tras la fundamentación y configuración del marco teórico, se ofrece el estudio completo con uno de los sujetos, lo que pone de manifiesto uno de los resultados de la investigación: la elaboración de una propuesta de metodología de la investigación, que incluye instrumentos para la recogida y análisis de datos y para la presentación de conclusiones. En el apartado de resultados deben considerarse asimismo las relaciones observadas entre los modos de resolver problemas de estos profesores y sus concepciones sobre la matemática y su enseñanza.

How are curriculum policies translated into opportunities to learn in the classroom? According to the Book presents findings from the largest cross-national study of textbooks carried out to date - the curriculum analysis of the 1995 Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). This study included a detailed, page-by-page, inventory of the mathematics and science content, pedagogy, and other characteristics collected from hundreds of textbooks in over forty countries. Drawing on these data, the authors investigate the rhetorical and pedagogical features of textbooks to understand how they promote and constrain educational opportunities. They investigate how textbooks are constructed and how they structure diverse elements into prescriptions for teaching practice. The authors break new ground in understanding textbooks in terms of different educational opportunities that they make possible. The book examines policy implications from these new understandings. In writing the present book I have had in mind the following objectives: - To propose a theoretical, comprehensive view of the domain of intuition. - To identify and organize the experimental findings related to intuition scattered in a wide variety of research contexts. - To reveal the educational implications of the idea, developed for science and mathematics education. Most of the existing monographs in the field of intuition are mainly concerned with theoretical debates - definitions, philosophical attitudes, historical considerations. (See, especially the works of Wild (1938), of Bunge (1 962) and of Noddings and Shore (1 984).) A notable exception is the book by Westcott (1968), which combines theoretical analyses with the author’s own experimental studies. But, so far, no attempt has been made to identify systematically those findings, spread throughout the research literature, which could contribute to the deciphering of the mechanisms of intuition. Very often the relevant studies do not refer explicitly to intuition. Even when this term is used it occurs, usually, as a self-evident, common sense term.
