Introduction : L'interruption volontaire de grossesse (IVG) est un soin avec une place particulière en France. Les facteurs de vulnérabilité contribuant à la répétition de grossesses non prévues et des IVG ont été étudiés dans de précédentes recherches mais rarement du point de vue des femmes elles-mêmes. L'objectif de cette recherche était de mieux comprendre la répétition des interruptions volontaires de grossesse chez une même femme en étudiant son expérience vécue. Méthode : Recherche qualitative compréhensive, réalisée entre mars 2022 et mars 2023, auprès de patientes du Centre d'IVG de la clinique Jules Verne de Nantes et du Centre Hospitalier de Saint Nazaire. Les entretiens ont été intégralement retranscrits. Les données ont fait l'objet d'une analyse qualitative inductive inspirée de la théorisation ancrée. Résultats : Dix entretiens ont été réalisés auprès de patientes ayant réalisé au moins 2 IVG. L'analyse des données a mis en lumière les efforts prolongés des femmes interrogées pour essayer de contrôler leur fécondité. Les stratégies de contraceptions étaient limitées, plus ou moins bien tolérées, contraignantes et pas totalement efficaces. Les partenaires masculins s'impliquaient encore très peu. Des facteurs comme le vécu de violences, les maladies chroniques et certaines comorbidités renforçaient la vulnérabilité de ces femmes. L'hyper-responsabilisation qui pesait sur ses femmes majorait leur fardeau et potentialisait l'arrivée d'un nouvel échec dans la gestion du contrôle de leur fécondité. Enfin, l'hyper-fertilité relative des femmes pouvait favoriser ces répétitions. Dans un second temps, le vécu des participantes, confrontées à cette répétition de grossesses non prévues, a pu être relaté à partir de chaque découverte de grossesse chargé d'émotions, en passant par la prise de décision de réalisation d'une IVG qui était différente à chaque grossesse, jusqu'à leurs diverses expérimentations des parcours d'IVG. En effet, ces parcours restaient semés d'embuches. L'accessibilité de l'IVG était variable. Chaque méthode avait ses avantages et inconvénients. Les sentiments de honte ou de culpabilité que pouvaient ressentir ces femmes étaient accrus par des facteurs de stigmatisation et allégés par des éléments de déculpabilisation et de normalisation de leur acte. Conclusion : Ce travail permet de prendre en compte le poids et l'impact des normes sociales de genre, dans le parcours de ces femmes. Ce travail peut encourager les soignants à changer leur regard et leur prise en charge de l'IVG. C'est aussi l'occasion de faire un point sur les difficultés actuelles de prévention et d'accès à l'IVG en France.

The wealthy can do so … but philosophers lead a very different life … So, according to Peter Abelard, did his wife Heloise state in characteristically stark terms the antithetical demands of family and scholarship. Heloise was not alone in making this assumption. Sources from Jerome onward never cease to remind us that the life of the mind stands at odds with life in the family. For all that we have moved in the past two generations beyond kings and battles, fiefs and barons, motherhood has remained a blind spot for medieval historians. Whatever the reasons, the result is that the historiography of the medieval period is largely motherless. The aim of this book is to insist that this picture is intolerably one-dimensional, and to begin to change it. The volume is focussed on the paradox of motherhood in the European Middle Ages: to be a mother is at once to hold great power, and by the same token to be acutely vulnerable. The essays look to analyse the powers and the dangers of motherhood within the warp and weft of social history, beginning with the premise that religious discourse or practice served as a medium in which mothers (and others) could assess their situation, defend claims, and make accusations. Within this frame, three main themes emerge: survival, agency, and institutionalization. The volume spans the length and breadth of the Middle Ages, from late Roman North Africa through ninth-century Byzantium to late medieval Somerset, drawing in a range of types of historian, including textual scholars, literary critics, students of religion and economic historians. The unity of the volume arises from the very diversity of approaches within it, all addressed to the central topic.
