Book Description
Dielectric properties, such as dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor of rubber wood have been studied at different moisture content, grain directions and frequencies. The moisture content has considerable effect on the dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor. The moisture content above 30% shows little change of dielectric properties whereas for the case from 0 to 30% the dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor increases abruptly. The higher value of the dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor were obtained at higher frequencies. The parallel to grain direction also shows higher dielectric properties when compared to perpendicular grain direction. This dielectric anisotropy may be attributed to the microscopic, macroscopic and molecular structure of wood. Empirical equations have been tried for estimating the dielectric properties of rubber wood from moisture content. [Authors' abstract].
