Book Description
HIV infection involves all systems of our body and diseases manifest in atypical and severe forms leading to lot of morbidity and mortality. Skin being the largest organ of the body and with mucous membranes, it is the main portal of HIV infection. There is a lot of scope for research in the field of HIV and AIDS, and there is a need for an updated literature that would throw a light on the efficient diagnosis and management of cutaneous manifestations in HIV disease. Hence we are bringing out this eBook which is a comprehensive literature on HIV and its various cutaneous manifestations in its entirety. In this eBook we have provided extensive data and information on various skin related infections, papulosquamous disorders, disorders of vasculature, pruritic papular eruptions, neoplasias, adverse drug reactions and other hair, nail, oral and ocular associated disorders in HIV. The work has been sufficiently researched and contributed by experts in this field. Clinical photographs and extensive scientific literature will enhance the knowledge and confidence of the readers particularly clinicians and postgraduates to efficiently diagnose and manage cutaneous diseases in HIV infected patients. We acknowledge the work and sincere efforts of all the contributors who have made this project to happen. Sincere thanks to Dr. Eswari L and Dr. Shwetha S for their support and help in bringing out this edition. Thanks to my spouse and daughters for their encouragement and support and especially to the publishers without whom this work would go unnoticed. We hope that this conscious effort will benefit the readers and in turn the people living with HIV- AIDS at large.

Book Description
HCPs' Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices HIV and AIDS contribute to nearly one-fifth of disease burden in sub-Saharan Africa. The challenge of HIV and AIDS disease is further compounded by the health care providers' struggle to acquire necessary knowledge and skills to deliver effective HIV and AIDS prevention, care and treatment services. Many countries have therefore initiated human capacity development programs focusing on training of the health care providers to support HIV and AIDS prevention, care and treatment services as part of the effort to scale up HIV and AIDS services. In order to describe their characteristics and to determine the physicians' knowledge, attitudes and practices on HIV and AIDS a group of physicians attending a Training of Trainers (TOT) course in HIV and AIDS held in Nairobi were surveyed. Individual physician data characterizing their knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices was collected using an anonymous group-administered questionnaire. This study indicated that the more the number of years a physician was in health care practices the better his/her knowledge, attitudes and practices in provision of HIV and AIDS treatment and care services.

Book Description
Europe's "Black Death" contributed to the rise of nation states, mercantile economies, and even the Reformation. Will the AIDS epidemic have similar dramatic effects on the social and political landscape of the twenty-first century? This readable volume looks at the impact of AIDS since its emergence and suggests its effects in the next decade, when a million or more Americans will likely die of the disease. The Social Impact of AIDS in the United States addresses some of the most sensitive and controversial issues in the public debate over AIDS. This landmark book explores how AIDS has affected fundamental policies and practices in our major institutions, examining: How America's major religious organizations have dealt with sometimes conflicting values: the imperative of care for the sick versus traditional views of homosexuality and drug use. Hotly debated public health measures, such as HIV antibody testing and screening, tracing of sexual contacts, and quarantine. The potential risk of HIV infection to and from health care workers. How AIDS activists have brought about major change in the way new drugs are brought to the marketplace. The impact of AIDS on community-based organizations, from volunteers caring for individuals to the highly political ACT-UP organization. Coping with HIV infection in prisons. Two case studies shed light on HIV and the family relationship. One reports on some efforts to gain legal recognition for nonmarital relationships, and the other examines foster care programs for newborns with the HIV virus. A case study of New York City details how selected institutions interact to give what may be a picture of AIDS in the future. This clear and comprehensive presentation will be of interest to anyone concerned about AIDS and its impact on the country: health professionals, sociologists, psychologists, advocates for at-risk populations, and interested individuals.
