Maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response
Author:
Publisher: World Health Organization
ISBN: 9240036660
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 140
Book Description
The majority of countries have adopted national policies around maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response. However, recent assessments have indicated poor quality of implementation. The MDSR Technical Working Group (TWG), led by WHO since 2013, was re-launched in November 2017 as the MPDSR TWG to provide global guidance, develop tools, and facilitate country level coordination of MPDSR, coordinating with other monitoring platforms and initiatives. During the November 2017 meeting, the TWG developed a workplan and priority activities. One of these activities was to develop implementation tools to improve implementation of maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response, including training materials. These tools provide a roadmap for conducting MPDSR in clinical and policy settings. This process has the potential to lead to real change for health systems, communities and nations.

The State of the World's Children 2009
Author: UNICEF.
Publisher: UNICEF
ISBN: 9280643185
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 168
Book Description
Having a child remains one of the biggest health risks for women worldwide. Fifteen hundred women die every day while giving birth. That's a half a million mothers every year. UNICEF's flagship publication, The State of the World's Children 2009, addresses maternal mortality, one of the most intractable problems for development work. The difference in pregnancy risk between women in developing countries and their peers in the industrialised world is often termed the greatest health divide in the world. A woman in Niger has a one in seven chance of dying during the course of her lifetime from complications during pregnancy or delivery. That's in stark contrast to the risk for mothers in America, where it's one in 4,800 or in Ireland, where it's just one in 48,000. Addressing that gap is a multidisciplinary challenge, requiring an emphasis on education, human resources, community involvement and social equality. At a minimum, women must be guaranteed antenatal care, skilled birth attendants and emergency obstetrics, and postpartum care. These essential interventions will only be guaranteed within the context of improved education and the abolition of discrimination.

Strengthening legal and regulatory frameworks for maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response
Author: World Health Organization
Publisher: World Health Organization
ISBN: 9240102264
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 78
Book Description
This manual for strengthening legal and regulatory frameworks for maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response (MPDSR) aims to support various state actors in enhancing national MPDSR frameworks. This may involve applying existing laws and regulations to MPDSR, developing new laws or regulations, or amending current ones to establish a legal and regulatory mandate for the creation and implementation of MPDSR. This manual emphasizes the importance of a structured approach to monitoring and responding to maternal and perinatal deaths, aiming to enhance accountability — including legal accountability — to enable quality improvements, reduce preventable deaths and strengthen interventions to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes. The manual is divided into three parts: Part 1 outlines the scope and objectives of MPDSR laws and regulations; Part 2 provides a checklist for assessing the quality of current or new laws, regulations, or policies; and Part 3 offers a step-by-step guide to undertaking such a legal and regulatory process.

Book Description
The Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health calls for the transformative change necessary to shape a more prosperous, sustainable future for children and adolescents. To implement the Strategy and contribute to Sustainable Development Goals, strategic shifts are necessary in maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health programming. It is no longer sufficient to save lives: health and other sectors must contribute to improving their health and well-being, and unlocking their full potential. An approach to health and development that supports a continuum of care throughout life is therefore essential to promote survival, enhance well-being and protect children and adolescents against risks and disease. Programmes to improve their health and well-being must be universal, while identifying those at risk or who are vulnerable and giving them extra support and protection required. This Framework outlines the rationale, highlights the areas for action and calls for a shift in redesigning child and adolescent programming. It calls for whole of government and whole of society approach to life course programming to achieve a shared goal and integrated coordinated response to ensuring health and well-being of children and adolescents.
