Book Description
This paper reports the Fund’s income position for FY 2015 following the closing of the Fund’s accounts for the financial year and completion of the external audit. FY 2015 net income, including income from surcharges, amounted to SDR 1.6 billion or about SDR 133 million more than estimated in April. The bulk of this difference reflects a smaller net loss in the valuation reported under the revised accounting standard for employee benefits (IAS 19). In accordance with decisions taken in April 2015, investment income from the Fixed-Income Subaccount of SDR 84 million has been transferred from the Investment Account to the GRA. GRA net income for FY 2015 of SDR 1.5 billion has been placed to the Fund’s reserves, further strengthening the Fund’s precautionary balances, which reached SDR 14.2 billion at the end FY 2015.

Book Description
In its fourth year, the CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) has many accomplishments to be proud of and much to look forward to. By the end of 2015, biofortified staple foods had reached approximately 15 million people. The aflasafe™ approach for controlling aflatoxins was registered in Kenya, Nigeria, and Senegal, with country investments secured to scale it up. The successful Together for Nutrition initiative expanded from India to Ethiopia, bringing together a range of nutrition stakeholders. The Global Nutrition Report (GNR) 2015 was released alongside the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals, building off the success of GNR 2014 to guide nutrition action. Our research portfolio is expanding to include food systems and we are exploring new collaborations with public health partners. Our country and regional engagement contributes to agricultural programs and policies that can better achieve nutrition and health impacts. We also hear loud and clear from the development community that achieving these outcomes is a priority, and that doing so at scale requires making agriculture and other sectors more nutrition and health-sensitive.

Book Description
Foodborne diseases (FBD) are an important externality of agriculture and food systems, but only recently have they risen up the development agenda as the result of growing awareness of the health and economic burdens of FBD and how they relate to food systems with a focus on low-income and middle-income countries (LMIC), particularly African nations. The health burden of FBD is comparable with that of malaria, and over 90% falls on people in LMIC, with an economic burden of more than US$100 million per year. FBD have many other, less well-estimated effects on nutrition, gender, equity, and the environment. While understanding of food safety in domestic markets of LMICs has advanced greatly, risk management is in its infancy. This Research Topic will bring together leading regional perspectives on food safety in LMICs.
