Book Description
Health Unplugged is about keeping it simple. When you go to your doctor and he or she tells you that you have to lose weight, that’s all they tell you. Then they send you to a registered dietician and they give you a food pyramid chart and you still can’t figure out what foods to eat. They use words like Glycemic Index, Amino Acid, BMI, Carbohydrates, and HDL, LDL. What does all of that mean? So you go out to the book store and buy books written for and by doctors and you still can’t understand the words, a month later you still haven’t lost weight. On my journey to losing weight, I have purchased at least 5 books/dvd’s trying to figure out what to eat and what exercise to do. Half of the books I never finished reading because I just wanted to get to the parts that I needed. Health Unplugged has a grocery list of foods that you can eat and an exercise schedule that you can start today. My book goes straight to the point for people like me that just want to lose weight without the mumble jumble.

Book Description
"Medical technology has helped mankind conquer tuberculosis, polio, and countless other once certain-death diseases. It has given us hope against cancer and AIDS, allowed heart and brain surgeries that have saved untold numbers of lives, and delivered us from the pain and crippling legacy of injury. Medical technology, it seems, is a never-ending string of miracles. But it is also a double-edged sword. More often than not, death today happens because of a decision to stop doing something, or to not do it at all. As the tragic life and death of Terri Schiavo so poignantly illustrated, universal definitions of life, death, nature, and many other concepts are elusive at best. Unplugged addresses the fundamental questions of the right-to-die debate, and discusses how the medical advances that bring so much hope and healing have also helped to create today's dilemma. This compelling book explores recent high-profile cases, including that of Mrs. Schiavo, and illuminates the complex legal, ethical, medical, and deeply personal issues of a debate that ultimately affects us all. Compassionate and beautifully written, the book helps readers understand the implications of current laws and proposed legislation, various medical options (including hospice), and the typical end-of-life decisions we all must face in order to make informed decisions for ourselves and our loved ones."

Book Description
In 24/6, Tiffany Shlain explores how turning off screens one day a week can work wonders on your brain, body, and soul. Internet pioneer and renowned filmmaker Tiffany Shlain takes us on a provocative and entertaining journey through time and technology, introducing a strategy for living in our 24/7 world: turning off all screens for twenty-four hours each week. This practice, which she’s done for nearly a decade with her husband and kids (sixteen and ten), has completely changed their lives, giving them more time, productivity, connection, and presence. She and her family call it “Technology Shabbat.” Drawn from the ancient ritual of Shabbat, living 24/6 can work for anyone from any background. With humor and wisdom, Shlain shares her story, offers lessons she has learned, and provides a blueprint for how to do it yourself. Along the way, she delves into the neuroscience, philosophy, psychology, and history of a weekly day of rest across cultures, making the case for why we need to bring this ritual back. A compelling personal story and a fascinating, far-reaching examination of the complex world we’ve created, 24/6 is a call to rebalance ourselves and our society.

Book Description
Fighting substance abuse with words is not working. But at Recovery Unplugged, there is a new approach that's helping addicts get the message: music. This method is based on recovery statistics unheard of in the rehab community, and the indisputable fact is it's working. Cofounded by author Paul Pellinger, Recovery Unplugged specializes in using music therapy as a catalyst for positive and long-lasting change. Through analyzing, creating, performing, and hearing music that is aimed at the heart instead of the head, clients are finding new motivation and inspiration to get-and stay-clean. In this book, Pellinger breaks down why his approach works and provides real examples of it in action. He traces his personal path in recovery from the moment he discovered the power of music at a young age to his years of experience in the treatment industry. Paul learned to combine this power with tried-and-true practices to create a new treatment process. Starting with a treatment facility in South Florida, it has grown into a nationally recognized movement with multiple locations. The approach described in Music Is Our Medicine can help the sick and suffering addict and potentially break the cycle for decades to come.
