Book Description
In Good Evening, Friends, Houston's iconic Eyewitness news anchor Dave Ward shares his untold personal and professional stories. Known as "the most trusted voice in Houston," Ward first joined ABC's KTRK-Channel 13 in 1966 and today hosts "Dave Ward's Houston" on ABC13. His journey from a simple life as the son of an East Texas pastor to become a welcome daily presence in the homes of millions of Houstonians unfolds as if it were preordained. As his early love of music and passion for technological innovation combined with his skill for distilling a story to its essence, it became apparent that Ward not only had a gift as a broadcaster but also a talent for riding the waves of change in the industry and emerging ever more beloved by his audience. In these pages, Ward details a remarkable sixty-year career as a newsman that began before the JFK assassination. He takes readers behind the scenes of America's most successful local news team--revealing his personal history with Marvin Zindler, chronicling the growth and development of the U.S. space program, and providing fascinating play-by-play about life on the road with the Houston Oilers in the "Luv Ya Blue" era. Additionally, Ward details his instrumental role in establishing Houston Crime Stoppers, the city's top non-profit dedicated to public safety, and he opens up about his personal struggles and dramatic brushes with death. Whether he was covering wars in Vietnam and the Middle East or providing accurate and in-depth coverage of presidential elections and historic natural disasters, Ward has always provided his audience with a clear and unbiased understanding of the news. Now, this long-awaited book captures the spirit of Houston as it presents a candid look at the man who has faithfully investigated its problems and broadcast its stories through almost seventy years of constant change.

Book Description
When one considers that Mr. Sherlock Holmes was in active practice for twenty-three years, and that during seventeen of these I was allowed to cooperate with him and to keep notes of his doings, it will be clear that I have a mass of material at my command. The problem has always been not to find but to choose. There is the long row of year-books which fill a shelf and there are the dispatch-cases filled with documents, a perfect quarry for the student not only of crime but of the social and official scandals of the late Victorian era. Concerning these latter, I may say that the writers of agonized letters, who beg that the honour of their families or the reputation of famous forebears may not be touched, have nothing to fear. The discretion and high sense of professional honour which have always distinguished my friend are still at work in the choice of these memoirs, and no confidence will be abused. I deprecate, however, in the strongest way the attempts which have been made lately to get at and to destroy these papers. The source of these outrages is known, and if they are repeated I have Mr. Holmes’s authority for saying that the whole story concerning the politician, the lighthouse, and the trained cormorant will be given to the public. There is at least one reader who will understand. It is not reasonable to suppose that every one of these cases gave Holmes the opportunity of showing those curious gifts of instinct and observation which I have endeavoured to set forth in these memoirs. Sometimes he had with much effort to pick the fruit, sometimes it fell easily into his lap. But the most terrible human tragedies were often involved in those cases which brought him the fewest personal opportunities, and it is one of these which I now desire to record. In telling it, I have made a slight change of name and place, but otherwise the facts are as stated.

Book Description
Since the middle of the twentieth century, Turkish playwriting has been notable for its verve and versatility. This two-volume anthology is the first major collection of plays in English of modern Turkish drama, a selection dealing with ancient Anatolian mythology, Ottoman history, contemporary social issues and family dramas, ribald comedy from Turkey’s cities and rural areas. It also includes several plays set outside Turkey. The two volumes together will feature seventeen plays by major playwrights published or produced from the late 1940s to the present day, with volume 1,“Ibrahim the Mad” and Other Plays, encompassing plays from the 1940s through the 1960s, and volume 2, "I, Anatolia" and Other Plays, including plays from the 1970s through the 1990s. They grant to English readers the pleasure of riveting drama in translations that are colloquial as well as faithful. For producers, directors, and actors they provide a wealth of fresh, new material, with characters ranging from Ottoman sultans to a Soviet cosmonaut, from the Byzantine Empress Theodora to a fisherman's wife, from residents of an Istanbul neighborhood to King Midas, from Montezuma to a Turkish cabinet minister.
