Book Description
Recommended by church leaders worldwide, this encouraging book by Tricia Neil is a practical 'how to' for turning vision into reality. Drawing on more than 12 years' experience as Executive Director at Holy Trinity Brompton, Tricia offers valuable insights for churches of all sizes. "When Tricia Neill came on staff at HTB, there were about 200 Alpha courses in the world. Now there are over 32,000. Humanly speaking, I done(tm)t think this would have been possible without Triciae(tm)s professionalism, expertise and flair. 'From Vision to Action' tells the story, and I suspect there is something here for churches of any size or situation." NICKY GUMBEL, Vicar of HTB, London.

From Vision to Action
Author: John Marks
Publisher: Columbia University Press
ISBN: 0231560869
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 302
Book Description
Social entrepreneurs are people who launch ventures aimed at promoting positive change in their community and the world. Their bottom line is not financial profit but the common good. Drawing on his extensive career, John Marks has written a practitioner’s guide to the underlying principles of social entrepreneurship. From Vision to Action offers a master class in effective negotiation and conflict resolution. It builds on a core strategy of understanding differences and acting on commonalities. Marks uses his own experiences of creating real-life breakthroughs during his time leading Search for Common Ground, which he founded and built with his wife, Susan Collin Marks, into the world’s largest peacebuilding nonprofit. Beginning with an improbable effort to promote cooperation between the CIA and the KGB, this book features examples that range from helping prevent genocide in Burundi to using children’s television to lessen ethnic tensions in Macedonia to creating a culture of mediation in Morocco. Readers learn key lessons, such as adapting to unexpected outcomes, communicating persuasive stories, and being incrementally transformational—or transformationally incremental. Bringing together compelling narratives and useful tools, From Vision to Action delivers practical guidance on building bridges and creating meaningful change.

Vision and Action
Author: Laurence R. Harris
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521631624
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 384
Book Description
This book is about the two-way interplay between vision and action. Vision acts to guide and control actions. But vision also obtains a lot of information about the world by virtue of these actions --for example by moving round an object to obtain successive views. This becomes a reiterative process and it is this that is the focus of this volume. This book contains contributions from scientists who are leaders in each of the several facets of the subject. Examples of the types of action considered vary from moving the eyes and head and body, as in looking around or walking, to complex actions such as driving a car, or playing table tennis.

Vision and Action
Author: Charles M. Reigeluth
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781943360192
Category : Competency-based education
Languages : en

Book Description
"In Vision and Action: Reinventing Schools Through Personalized Competency-Based Education, authors Charles M. Reigeluth and Jennifer R. Karnopp provide readers with a comprehensive guide to the personalized, competency-based system of education, its numerous benefits, and its implementation. This book acknowledges the challenge of transforming to a PCBE system but asserts the necessity of implementing PCBE as the system most capable of preparing students for life in the post-industrial age. The authors explain that PCBE must be implemented at all levels of education and among all school stakeholders in order to succeed. Therefore, this book is broken into two complementary and digestible aspects-vision and process. Readers will learn to define their vision of PCBE and proactively design a complete, holistic model. Next, they will learn how to realize that vision and implement the system fully throughout their schools and district. In this book, readers will find all of the knowledge and strategies they need to overcome the challenges of the change process and succeed in bringing the sorely needed PCBE system to their students and schools"--

Vision, Instruction, and Action
Author: David Chapman
Publisher: Mit Press
ISBN: 9780262031813
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 295
Book Description
Vision, Instruction, and Action clearly and cleverly describes a sophisticated integrated system called Sonja that takes instruction, can interpret its environment visually, and can play games (in this case the video game, Amazon) on its own. Sonja integrates advances in intermediate visual processing, interactive activity, and natural language pragmatics. In demonstrating that such systems, rare in artificial intelligence, are possible, David Chapman shows how discoveries in visual psychophysics can be incorporated into Al, how complex activity can result from participation rather than plan following, and how physical context can be used to interpret indexical instructions. Sonja is able to play a competent beginner's game of Amazon autonomously and at the same time can also make flexible use of human instructions in knowing how to kill off monsters, pick up and use tools, and find its way in a dungeon maze. It extends the author's previous work in developing a new theory of activity by addressing linguistic issues and providing a better understanding of the architecture underlying activity, incorporating many technical improvements. Sonja also models several pragmatic issues in computational linguistics, focusing on external reference and including linguistic repair processing, and the use of temporal and spatial expressions. It connects language use with more detailed and realistic theories of vision and activity. In the field of vision research, Sonja provides an implementation of a unified visual architecture, demonstrating that this architecture can support a serious theory of activity. It demonstrates the first instance that various visual mechanisms previously proposed on psychophysical, neurophysiological, and speculative computational grounds can be made useful by connecting them with a natural task domain. David Chapman is a Computer Scientist with Teleos Research in Palo Alto.
