This paper attempts to spotlight human resource management as a fundamental part of the role of any supervisor. In this paper, the human resource manager refers to the supervisor of three or more reports in a business unit not minding the existence of the human resource department in the organization. This view is in line with the emerging trend in the human resources management arena. Thus every attempt is made towards a brief presentation of the various aspects of human resource management, the emerging trends confronting the human resource management practitioner and the features of the emerging human resource management concept with particular reference to the savvy supervisor in the Nigerian oil and gas business environment. Human resource managers are relinquishing responsibilities hitherto domiciled in the confines of the human resources department, by tradition, and pushing them down the line to employees' direct supervisors. The advantage, many believe, is the likelihood of a better engaged employee pool in the organization. The extent and willingness of human resource practitioners to respond to this paradigm shift is yet to be fully seen in the Nigerian oil and gas industry. The writer presents suggestions for supervisors to consider in improving their human resource management skills and how to leverage the support that is required from the human resource department in implementing the culture change.

This study investigates the effect of electronic human resource management on enterprise sustainability of oil and gas firms in Nigeria. Cross-sectional research design was employed in the study. Accessible population includes twenty (20) oil and gas firms that are registered with Rivers state ministry of energy and natural resources using simple random sampling. Eighty three (83) top level managers were surveyed. Sample size of sixty eighty (68) was ascertained using Krejcie and Morgan (1970). The study found that electronic human resource management has a positive significant effect on enterprise sustainability of oil and gas firms in Nigeria. Based on the findings, the study concluded that electronic human resource management measured in terms of e-recruitment and e-training promotes enterprise sustainability. One of the recommendations is that human resource managers should embrace electronic platforms for recruiting new talents into the organization so as to enhance sustainability.

While the human factors of personal safety have been widely studied and widely adopted in many high-risk industries, process safety â€" the application of engineering, design, and operative practices to address major hazard concerns â€" is less well understood from a human factors perspective, particularly in the offshore oil industry. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine organized a workshop in January 2018 to explore best practices and lessons learned from other high-risk, high-reliability industries for the benefit of the research community and of citizens, industry practitioners, decision makers, and officials addressing safety in the offshore oil industry.
