Book Description
The elevated temperature tensile properties of hot-pressed QMV beryllium have been studied from 250-950°C. Also those of warm-pressed, hot-extruded beryllium have been investigated from 250-600°C. Both materials exhibit a ductility peak at about 450°C while tensile strength decreases with increasing temperature. The results are compared with data reported in the literature on extruded flake and extruded cast beryllium. Special equipment developed for tensile testing beryllium up to 950°C is illustrated and described.

Book Description
The tensile, compressive, and shear properties of beryllium in the temperature range from 800 to 1500 F for various strain rates are evaluated for beryllium of different grain sizes, fabrication characteristics, and oxide contents. Enhanced elevated temperature properties through grain boundary distribution of beryllium oxide in beryllium metal are shown, and the effects of grain size and crystal anisotropy at elevated temperature are discussed. The effects of purity, grain size, and other processing variables on the elevated temperature thermal properties, including thermal conductivity, specific heat, and coefficient of expansion, are also presented. Variations influencing chemical behavior are noted. Comparisons with some low-temperature properties are made to illustrate effects influenced by temperature and those independent of temperature.

Book Description
This book introduces beryllium; its history, its chemical, mechanical, and physical properties including nuclear properties. The 29 chapters include the mineralogy of beryllium and the preferred global sources of ore bodies. The identification and specifics of the industrial metallurgical processes used to form oxide from the ore and then metal from the oxide are thoroughly described. The special features of beryllium chemistry are introduced, including analytical chemical practices. Beryllium compounds of industrial interest are identified and discussed. Alloying, casting, powder processing, forming, metal removal, joining and other manufacturing processes are covered. The effect of composition and process on the mechanical and physical properties of beryllium alloys assists the reader in material selection. The physical metallurgy chapter brings conformity between chemical and physical metallurgical processing of beryllium, metal, alloys, and compounds. The environmental degradation of beryllium and its alloys both in aqueous and high temperature condition are presented. The health and environmental issues are thoroughly presented the current requirements and established practices for handling beryllium in the workplace are available. A thorough list of references will assist the user of this book.
