Excerpt from The Dublin University Magazine, Vol. 12: A Literary and Political Journal; July to December, 1838 Yet, despite the drowsy grumblings of the Norwegian prophetess, we think it would be easy enough to shew both the justice and the expediency of a post marten: jurisdiction in some in stances; particularly such as this. In the first place, toreqnire us to catch such ephemeral insects as our present batch of culprits alive, would be con denning the hapless and bewildered critic to lay at snap-dragon for his pm indeed, h this rule, the telluh e unlucky wig t whom we had heenhrisken htowhipu thevery What he hadc i ped the s elight claim exemption rom our knives long before we could whet them for the tarifying. Besides, in denli with this as with any other species noxi ous vermin, it should he remembered that it is only their accumulation in arms that renders the nuisance worthy of notice; nor, on the other hand, should it be forgotten that death is far from extinguishing it - the air which have poisoned continuing nit with elements of their repro ducfion. Excerpt from Dublin University Magazine, Vol. 57: A Literary and Political Journal; January to June, 1861 In the egg-it with which this move ment has n carried on we may dis cover no lack of hopeful auguries for the future. It is no ephemeral out burst of blind anger, or ins'ular mis trust; but rather the natural issue of that sturdy patriotism which shallow or suspicious statesmen have always been much too ready to ignore or keep in check. Late experience seems. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The Dublin University Magazine, Vol. 48: A Literary and Political Journal; July to December, 1856 It is acarosl necessary to say that of the twofold, difficulty in question, one part relates to our possessions and rights in Central America, and the other to the attempt made during the late war to procure recruits from amongst the inhabitants of the United States. Upon each of these questions a Blue Book has been published. The controversies, which raged for some time simultaneously, are thus kept separate, though their separa tion in the parliamentary documents does not so completely isolate them from each other, as not to render a com 'son valuable for the purpose of i ustrating the characters of the parties and the real objects they had in view. We prepose to take up the Central American question first, both because it arose considerably earlier than the other, and because the lat ter will be dealt with more naturally in connection with the concluding por tion of the present paper.
