Book Description
Excerpt from Distribution and Migration of North American Warblers When the warblers pass beyond the southern boundary of the United States, the width and destination of their paths of migration vary greatly among the different species. Some go to the Bahamas and not to Cuba, others to Cuba and not to Yucatan, or to Yucatan and not to Cuba. In the case of wide-ranging species, like the black and white warbler or the redstart, it is probable that some individuals cross from northern Florida to the northern Bahamas, others from central Florida to the central Or southern Bahamas, others from southern Florida to Cuba, others from northwestern Florida to Yucatan, and still others from points to the west of these localities. These different lines of flight between the southern boundary of the United States and the countries to the south are called in this publication migration routes, but they are not to be considered definite paths with exact boundaries, but merely minor subdivisions of a great migration route that pass insensibly into each other. The principal subdivisions, or routes, are the following. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Following the same format as other book in the series, this guide to North American wood warblers, the parulinae, looks at their distribution throughout the USA and into Central and South America. New World warblers are one of the most colourful, popular and enigmatic groups of North American birds. This is the first time comprehensive guide to the identification, ageing and sexing of all 116 species. Thirty-six colour plates show the major age, sex and racial variations for all species (many of which have never been fully illustrated before). They are accompanied by colour distribution maps and black-and-white drawings. Jon Curson's up-to-the-minute text is based on over ten years' field research in North, South and Central America coupled with meticulous museum work by both author and artists. The book contains a full text for each species, including wing-formulae drawings. Some of the species covered find their way to the UK and Europe. New World Warblers represents a significant step forward in our knowledge of one of the most beautiful and conspicuous groups of North American birds.

SIR: I have the honor to transmit herewith, for publication as Bulletin No. 35, of the Biological Survey, 21. report on the Distribution and Migration of North American Shorebirds, by Wells W. Cooke, assistant, Biological Survey. Many species of shorebirds inhabit the United States or pass through our territory in migration. These birds possess considerable economic importance, and as other wild game like ducks, geese, and swans diminish in numbers their value for food and as a means for sport will increase. Large numbers are annually killed, and unless prompt measures are taken adequately to protect them some of the larger and more important kinds are likely to become extinct, especially in the region east of the Mississippi River. A knowledge of the summer and winter abodes of the several species and of the routes they take in migration is essential to intelligent legislation in their behalf, and, accordingly, all the known facts in regard to this part of their life history are here brought together. Respectfully, H. W. HENsHAW, Chief, Biological Survey. Hon. JAMES W1LsoN, Secretary of Agriculture. 2 CONTENTS. Page. Introduction............................................................... 5...
