Book Description
Conducting metallopolymers have been investigated for a variety of applications due to their ability to take advantage of both the mechanical processability of the polymer material, as well as the optical and electronic properties of the metal. Our project goal is to design, synthesize and characterize novel iridium(III)-containing conducting metallopolymers for use as the active layer in polymer light-emitting diodes. We have utilized thiophene functionalized ligands that can be readily electropolymerized into conducting polymer thin films and can be easily incorporated into a device structure. Iridium(III) was chosen as the metal center due to its promising photophysical properties, as similar complexes have demonstrated high luminescent quantum yields and short phosphorescent lifetimes. The coordination environment around the metal can be altered synthetically to tune the emission wavelength across the visible spectrum. The synthetic control over the polymer backbone, as well as the iridium(III) ligand environment, allowed us to independently vary each component, which has provided a variety of materials. The materials are characterized through 1H and 13C NMR, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, electrochemistry, X-Ray diffraction and X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The photophysical properties of the materials are studied through UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy, UV-Vis-NIR spectroelectrochemistry and steady-state/ time-resolved emission spectroscopy.

Book Description
The fundamental photophysical properties of iridium(III) materials make this class of materials the pre-eminent transition metal complex for use in optoelectronic applications. Iridium(III) in Optoelectronic and Photonics Applications represents the definitive account of photoactive iridium complexes and their use across a wide variety of applications. This two-volume set begins with an overview of the synthesis of these complexes and discusses their photophysical properties. The text highlights not only mononuclear complexes but also the properties of multinuclear and polymeric iridium-based materials and the assembly of iridium complexes into larger supramolecular architectures such as MOFs and soft materials. Chapters devoted to the use of these iridium-based materials in diverse optoelectronic applications follow, including: electroluminescent devices such as organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) and light-emitting electrochemical cells (LEECs); electrochemiluminescence (ECL); bioimaging; sensing; light harvesting in the context of solar cell applications; in photoredox catalysis and as components for solar fuels. Although primarily targeting a chemistry audience, the wide applicability of these compounds transcends traditional disciplines, making this text also of use to physicists, materials scientists or biologists who have interests in these areas.

Book Description
A benchmark publication, the first edition of the Phosphor Handbook, published in 1998, set the standard for references in the field. The second edition, updated and published in 2007, began exploring new and emerging fields. However, in the last 14 years, since the second edition was published, many notable advances and broader phosphor applications have occurred. Completely revised, updated, and expanded into three separate volumes, this third edition of the Handbook covers the most recent developments in phosphor research, characterization, and applications. This volume on ‘Novel Phosphors, Synthesis, and Applications’ provides the descriptions of synthesis and optical properties of phosphors used in different applications, including the novel phosphors for some newly developed applications. The chapters in this book cover: Various LED-based phosphors and their synthesis and applications Ingenious integrated smart phosphors and their novel optoelectronic and photonic devices Quantum dot, single crystalline, and glass phosphors Upconversion nanoparticles for super-resolution imaging and photonic and biological applications Special phosphors for laser, OLED, energy storage, quantum cutting, thermometry, photosynthesis, AC-driven LED, and solar cells
