Book Description
Excerpt from Coal Resources of District Vi The coal resources of District VI are very great. The original tonnage of coal No. 6 alone is estimated to be tons. Of this only tens, or per cent, have been mined. The amount of coal represented by tons is equivalent to the total production of the United States to the end of 1910. This volume of coal would supply Illinois at the present rat production and with the present proportion of recovery for about years, and the entire United States between 5 and 10 years. N o careful estimate of the amount of coal in the coal beds other than No. 6 has been attempted, but inasmuch as the total tonnage per foot for the entire area is billion it is not improbable that there is nearly as much coal available in the other beds as was originally available in No. 6 seam. Book Description
Excerpt from Coal Mining Practice in District VII District N 0. VII of the Illinois Coal Mining Investigations, as shown in fig. 1, includes all mines operating in coal bed 6 west of the Duquoin anticline and north as far as an east-west line about 6 miles south of Springfield. It comprises the fol lowing counties: Bond, Clinton, Fayette, Macoupin, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Moultrie, Randolph, St. Clair, Shelby and Washington, together with that portion of Perry County west of the Duquoin anticline and those portions of Christian and Sangamon Counties in which bed 6 is mined. Fayette county at present does not contribute to the production of the district. Table 1 gives general data for district VII by counties. A detailed description of the districts into which the State has been divided and the method of collecting the data upon which this bulletin is based is contained in Bulletin 1, A I're liminary Report on Organization and Method. The coal output of the district for the year ended June 30, 1912, was short tons, per cent of the total production of the State. This output came from 196 mines, 150 shipping and 46 local, employing men and operating on an average of 158 days in the year. The number of employees was per cent of all employed in coal mining in the State. The use of undercutting machines made possible the production of per cent of the State's coal output by per cent of the employees. In the fiscal year 1912, machines undercut tons, per cent of the production of the district. The large percentage of undercut coal produced in the district reduces powder consumption. During the year ended June 30. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Coal Mining Investigations in District V Seven typical mines were examined in this District in which there are 33 mines, 21 shipping and 12 local. The total production of the district for the year ended. June was tons or per cent of the total production of the State during the year. The coal mined by machines in District V totaled tons, per cent of the total production of the district. A direct result of undercutting such a large percentage is the use of less powder. The pro duction of the district is per cent of the coal output of the State. For the year ended June 30, 1912, only kegs of powder, per cent of the powder used in the State, were used in the district. There were tons of coal gained for each keg of powder used.
