This report reviews the literature on the interrelationship of the three elements of intellectual property, biotechnology, and biodiversity conservation as reflected in those international processes. The introductory material includes discussion of the meaning of biodiversity and its role in modern life, the development of biodiversity issues prior to 1992, and underlying concepts of biodiversity, biotechnology, and intellectual property rights (IPR).
