Book Description
A plant anatomy textbook unlike any other on the market today. Carol A. Peterson described the first edition as 'the best book on the subject of plant anatomy since the texts of Esau'. Traditional plant anatomy texts include primarily descriptive aspects of structure, this book not only provides a comprehensive coverage of plant structure, but also introduces aspects of the mechanisms of development, especially the genetic and hormonal controls, and the roles of plasmodesmata and the cytoskeleton. The evolution of plant structure and the relationship between structure and function are also discussed throughout. Includes extensive bibliographies at the end of each chapter. It provides students with an introduction to many of the exciting, contemporary areas at the forefront of research in the development of plant structure and prepares them for future roles in teaching and research in plant anatomy.

Book Description
Trees and plants are important components of the human environment having significant presence beyond agricultural and recreational values. Colour Atlas of Woody Plants and Trees presents a photographic compilation of morphological features of trees and shrubs giving attention to their unique aspects not presented in existing books. By increasing awareness to users through high quality, full-color photographs and informative text, this book demonstrates the enormous diversity of vascular trees and plants living today. Features: Full color atlas offers concise, but highly informative text accompanied by over 200 high-resolution digital tree images Contains images of the anatomy of tree structures and evolution of the most important features of trees Presents information on the varied structure and morphology exhibited by trees and demonstrates their vital importance in the current struggle for the survival of our human society Surveys the most important morphological features of plants, shrubs and trees Presents aspects of plants and trees both common and rarely seen in nature Bryan Geoffrey Bowes is a retired Senior Lecturer in the Botany Department at Glasgow University and was a Research Fellow in ETH Zurich, Harvard University, and University of New England, Australia. His research interests encompass plant anatomy and ultrastructure, plant regeneration, and morphogenesis in vitro.

Book Description
A Color Atlas of Photosynthetic Euglenoids provides a simple visual tool to help identify photosynthetic euglenoids. It provides basic background information such as the history of the various genera, and notes on where they can be found, what the cells look like, and the internal and external structures that can be used to identify species. A dichotomous key provides a simple means to identify each of the genera, and a full glossary is available to define all of the scientific terms used in the text. The main body of the book consists of high resolution color plates of each of the species, organized by genus. The photographs on each plate illustrate the main features used to identify each organism such as size and body shape, flagellar length, pellicle structure, type of chloroplast, shape and arrangement of mucocysts. This text will be useful to phycologists, protozoologists, ecologists studying wetland systems and managers of reservoirs, lakes, ponds and natural resources.

Book Description
This atlas presents anatomical descriptions of the xylem, bark and pith of 264 species belonging to 71 families. It highlights the anatomical diversity of trees, shrubs, dwarf shrubs, woody lianas and several of the prominent perennial herbs from the Eastern Mediterranean region, with a focus on the island of Cyprus. The island’s topography and biogeographic history combine to provide a wide range of habitats and diverse flora including widespread, endemic, and ornamental species. The monograph for each species includes a description of the anatomical structures of the stem and twig xylem and the twig’s bark and pith, as well as color micrographs of double-stained sections of each of these plant parts. These entries are accompanied by a photograph and a brief description of the plant including stem wood density, height, habit, flower, leaf and fruit characteristics, and a map showing its geographic and altitudinal distribution in the region. Xylem descriptions follow the IAWA lists of microscopic features for hardwood and softwood identification. For bark and pith descriptions, a new coding system developed by the authors is applied. Lastly, the work offers a key for wood identification that was developed to differentiate between groups of species by using a small number of features that are unambiguous and clearly visible. The atlas will be a valuable guide for botanists, ecologists, foresters, archeologists, horticulturists and paleobotanists.

Book Description
This revision of the now classic Plant Anatomy offers a completely updated review of the structure, function, and development of meristems, cells, and tissues of the plant body. The text follows a logical structure-based organization. Beginning with a general overview, chapters then cover the protoplast, cell wall, and meristems, through to phloem, periderm, and secretory structures. "There are few more iconic texts in botany than Esau’s Plant Anatomy... this 3rd edition is a very worthy successor to previous editions..." ANNALS OF BOTANY, June 2007

Book Description
This profusely illustrated reference guide offers students and nature lovers a fundamental understanding of all plant life, from the tallest trees to tiny fungal growths. It explains plant formation, growth, and reproduction, both in the wild, and in cultivated fields and plant nurseries. Cross-section illustrations show the parts of fruits and flowers and explain seed germination. Plant life is also presented within the larger context of the Earth's ecosystem. The influence of climates is shown with focus on how plant life differs in desserts, rain forests, and temperate zones. Plants are seen as sources of food, as floral and garden decoration, as wood for lumber, and even as fiber for the manufacture of cloth and rope. The book is filled with photos, artwork, and easy-to-read diagrams and charts, all in full color. It makes a fine reference book for classrooms and school libraries.
